So much for the best conditions yet.. It was downright nautical out there...and rainy, windy and cold!. Some fish were caught but not hot by any means. Scratched the trip to simpson reef  thankfully, it would not have been fun getting back.

Still on a underling kick, another 3 today and still no keeper...Did manage some decent blacks.

Will see what tomorrow brings
See ya on the water..

It was nasty out at Sunset today, but Yaksurf managed to up me in the AOTY with this black. Needless to say, don't ever fish on the backside of a pinnacle rock! Especially when the swell is coming from the front side! That is, unless you like surfing!

I caught a few fish out there 1 ling, 2 underlings, 3 blacks.  The ride home was real rough.

You guys are nuts! I really need to come down there.  I don't get sea sick when it is scary rough.  I'm too busy being scared.

Man, Pacific City was flat as a pancake compared to that. Tons of fish up there two, I completely lost count but i think I caught somewhere between 8-12 keeper sized lings to 27", 4-5 underlings, 2 cabbies, and 10-15 blacks.

Man, Noah, we gotta do that when I get back from Colorado in mid April. Any closer places for good salt?

No, Pacific City is going to be the shortest distance, followed by Depoe. Depoe is the far easier launch though, and is better suited for your first time out. I usually leave my house about 5:00 and drive the 2 or so hours from Portland. It goes pretty quick. You might want to just get a cheap motel after fishing, you'll be wiped. I think there is one in Depoe.

Today was much better conditions until the wind started howling again making the return trip a little interesting but not near as bad as yesterday. Fishing was slower though, Did manage to get my first 2012 keeper size lings(22,24) but i CPR'd 'em anyway.

this a short video of the sloppiest area of water. It may look rough but yesterday was still way worse.. That last wave gave me quite a slap, My camera mount is messed up so had to hand hold it. wouldn't of even thought about it yesterday, i was white knuckling the handle... I have the hardest time keeping the horizon line low in the shot with the playsport, always aiming low.

See ya on the water..

Great job on the Lings today. That video is intense. When you are in the troughs do you lose sight of the shoreline?  One of these days I will give the ocean a try, but that kind of footage keeps me from being in a hurry. I feel OK about not owning a drysuit until I see the ocean like that. You are a braver yak'er than I.

don't really lose sight because the shore is so close and it's all high ground. That was not to bad, yesterday was worse by far.  There are plenty of days when it's glass flat out there too in the summer. The good thing about Sunset is that you can stay on the inside when it's rough like that and still do really well, without the pucker factor.
