I met up with Zee yesterday and bought his Adventure.  I got to test it out today.  It was a blast.  My In-laws are in town so the timing of the purchase was perfect.  My Father-in-law has always wanted to try sturgeon fishing so we headed out to George Rogers this afternoon.  I have never seen so many sturgeon jumping in all my life.  There were some monsters breaching.  I only had one anchor and the water was moving fast so I we anchored up together.  I had him in the Outback since he has never fished from a kayak before.  I used the Adventure and man is that thing fast.

We started getting bit right away.  Well, after the third anchoring attempt anyways.  Did I mention how fast that current was moving?  :o

I hooked into a nice 40 incher for Kayak Wars points:

I learned that the wide angle lens on the olympus wan't quite wide enough, nor is measuring a sturgeon and taking the photo something to do yourself.  I also learned that when you point a fish that is trying to wrap itself around you (and was winning) at the camera, it doesn't look quite as big. But it was the only shot of me with a fish in the new (to me) Adventure, which was just oozing good mojo.

I followed that up with another keeper sized which did not want a picture taken.  Notice the leader.

Guess what happened on the next big fish?    :BangHead: Now I know why the leader broke.  I didn't see that until I got home.

My Father -in-law was getting bit, but it took a little while for him to get the feel for when to set the hook.  He caught a couple shakers and lost a couple bigger ones.  He had a blast.  I didn't get any photos of him, just video. Here is a short video of his first two sturgeon:

Now it is time to hit the bays for crabs and clams tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  I will be staying in Oceanside so I haven't decided which bay to hit yet.  Most likely Netarts, but Nehalem is calling.  Steelhead are tempting, but I still haven't figured that one out yet.

Oh, and that was a bottle of root beer in the video. ;)

Way to go, Craig! Congrats on the Adventure.

Guess we should have made the drive over to GW instead of fishing Battle Ground Lake (although we did catch about forty 11-12" Rainbows). If you're going to crab definitely go to Netarts. Nehalem is no good for crabs or fish right now. I would also highly recommend the lower Wilson for Steelhead right now. Find a put in above and leave a car at Donaldson Road or lower. Use salmon eggs and drift it.

Good luck, wish I could join you!

Awesome report Craig!  That's pretty cool that you were able to get the father in law out there.   Dang your not kidding about how fast that water was moving.  Thanks for the Video of it.

Just curious,  is that some type of measuring label/sticker down the right side of the adventure?   If it is, I am curiouse how usefull it was having it there.   Looks like it would help out a bunch.  Zee?

Congrats on the new kayak, getting your father-in-law on fish and getting some points for NWKA 2.  Hopefully with 2 of us submitting fish NWKA 2 will finally show up on the board.

Yes, Zee had it marked off for sturgeon.  However, I wasn't able to hold the fish alongside and take a shot at the same time.  it would have worked with two people, but with he was tied off on the opposite side as me.
