Got back today from a 4 day trip to Lincoln City during the crazy weather. One of the only lightning flashes occurred this morning about 50 yards away from the house we were renting as we were about to leave. We got rain, hail, wind, and wild waves - a cool trip all around.

I only got into the water on Monday launching from Mo's to set out two crap traps near high tide. It got a little... BREEZY while I was paddling out there in my Mini-X. I was going to take my Hobie Revo but I thought that the Mini-X would be a little more stable in case the wind picked up - and it did. I didn't have any trouble out there and actually picked up two legal sized Dungies. I used some turkey that one of the butchers at IGA sold to my wife for a pittance. In the future, I'm always going to send her in the store to pick up the crab bait - butchers must find it sexy or something when women do that.

There were a couple of motorboats out there and in the wind and blowing (sideways) rain, I must have looked like a lunatic. In all I was out on the water for about 90 minutes (fishing the slack high tide to just the turn). More than a few people came by to see how I'd done and to talk about wanting to buy a kayak. I felt I needed to talk about safety issues that they seemed to listen to intently. My PFD seemed a little tight and paddling was a little constricted but I felt like I had the right gear on in case I was going to take a quick dip.

After getting those two little feisty crabs back to the house I used the technique that I found on that "other" thread. My 10 year old daughter took some pictures of the appetizers and watched intently as I quickly cleaned them. Boiled them both and my wife and I had some serious crab cocktail on Tuesday. Oh, it was tasty!

Looking forward to getting back out there soon although I know that the months that end in "R" are usually the best ones when you want to get out on the water.

Nice report true! Sounds like a very fun trip!

I'm hoping to do a trip to Newport next   Month, you interested? I'm thinking to do some crabbing, although your right months with "r" I've heard are better, but I've had good luck at Newport in the past for dungeonus, and red rocks:) might try my hand at fishing out there

I thought about doing Newport on Tuesday but the wind and rain were too much. I did spend a little time in the Rogue Brewery under the bridge that afternoon though. Some friends of mine were going to be crabbing from the Embarcadero Tuesday through Thursday. I'll have to ask them how they did.

I'd love to head out but these next few months are crazy for me. I'm coaching and my kids are knee deep in the sports. There are also Springers to think about, but I'll pm you next time I can get out.
