hey all just ordered my first kayak and will be here tomorrow, a acsend fs 10, wanting a anchor system off the back. plan on using it mostly in streams for fishing and duck hunting, have seen some of the home made anchor systems on here but has anybody used a factory one like the scotty, are there any other ones out there? any help would be great, thanks

Yup, the scotty works well. If you're using in any sort of current it's generally good to remove the locking mechanism and just secure the line to a cleat close at hand. The thinking being if you get into trouble you can release the rope and float way from a snagged anchor. See a couple of pics below, flip forward. Don't use it with a claw anchor in a stream or river, try and find around a 10 lb pyramid. The claw snags too easy and is hard to free.

I use my Scotty anchor setup in lakes and slow moving waters and it works great.  Yet to try it in deep or fast water, but still like it.
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

I second all of Noah's comments.

ok well got the new yak today and there is no way i can mount a anchor off the back due to,  1 the reat storage hangs down way to low to cralw back there and 2 both ends are filled with foam and would be a pain to chizel out if i even could in the back, so instead i ordered the wilderness brand anchore trolly systym and there tension cleate deal, so guess that will halt to work for now,

noah... so are u diving sunday, just realized your pic is the same at ncuh, and realized who you were, good luck this year and be safe in the water

Can you take a picture of what you're talking about? Also, I think you might have me confused with someone else. I don't know what ncuh is :)

That picture is actually the bridge at Depoe Bay, OR. Just the rear of the kayak. Could you just put a flush mount scotty on the rear?

I would say either a flush mount or regular block mount on the back would work fantastic...

check this out..

mount your block or flush mount in the back. Scotty even has rivets you can buy that would superb, put this anchor lock on the back and away you go

the problem with the scotty mounts is i thought u needed to bolt it through the yak and put a washer and nut on the bottom, which there is no way to get to it, but rivets would be great of they were long enough and strong enough, and do u think they would be strong enough with the anchor always dangeling on it, or when anchored in the current  and its pulling on the bracket ?

Check out Scotty's extra long rivets. They are an expanding rivet so they don't just mushroom slightly they expand out and get a great grip. Much like the bolt drywall anchors.

Just be sure to silicon the holes good. I have mounted lots of attachments in the rear of my boat using this style of rivet and no issues.
