I am new to the Bend area and look forward to fishing with some like minded people. I was an NCKA'er while living on the Central California Coast. Mostly fished salt, but do have a couple of spinning rods and a fly rod.

Change of scenery, and to be closer to my non-fishing best buddy. Still plan on visiting the ocean at least once a year.

Welcome! Where in the central coast? My best bud lives in Avila Beach. Got him out on my kayak several times last year.

Welcome to Central Oregon. I just moved into a house in Redmond and have been scoping the area for opportunities. Like to try Crane Pr., Paulina and East Lakes.  Have you floated the Warm Springs section of the Deschutes?

So little time, so much to explore?

I haven't done any fishing in Oregon yet, but I am looking forward to it. Have kayaked East Lake and Crescent Lake on camping trips in the past. I am a rookie to fly fishing, and need a recommendation to a local store that offers good advice and prices. I have an older Sage #6 weight rod and need everything else to get started. Also need to figure out what to wear while kayaking in this area. I used a wetsuit with a spray jacket in the ocean, but that is probably overkill in all but icy waters. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome, Bgwvdave! There must be a story behind that moniker. I always thought Bend must be one of the prime hideouts where old surfers go when they hang up their sticks.

In terms of a fly shop, The Patient Angler is pretty good as is Fly and Field Outfittters. The latter is on the west side. Both are pretty good about helping newbies. Don't flash too much coin or you'll walk out with a bunch of stuff you don't need :)

Whoa! You just reminded me of how savvy fly shop owners are at sizing up customers. I walked into a fly shop wearing some brand new Merrell hiking boots. Regardless of the fact that they were "cosmetic blems" and I got them at 30% off retail, the shop's proprietor, who knew me, greeted me with "Nice boots!" He then asked me if I had checked out any of the new Sage fly rods. Hmmmmm. I would suggest wearing your oldest, most worn-out and dirtiest work boots and some raggedy ass jeans and a faded hoodie when entering any fly shop. And if you can't stand for three days' beard growth, then at least omit the aftershave.

Hello from Klamath Falls. We enjoy Diamond Lake. There are some lunkers waiting to be caught. The lake was poisened several years ago and replanted. The trout are reported to grow between 1" to 2" a month. The largest fish caught last year was over 7 lbs.  The fishing derby is June 23rd  with $5000. in prize money to the top 30 fish. 10 mile a hour speed limit for boats. Diamond lake has nice forest service campgrounds. I prefer Theilson on the West side. I will be in the bright orange Tarpon 120  on the South end, looking for that 10 pounder.

The wetsuit and spray jacket combo will probably work fine in the river or lakes on colder days.  Breathable waders w/belt would also pair nicely with the jacket.  Come hot weather break out the swim trunks.

I like tossing jointed rapalas for trout on the Deschutes and trolling wedding rings for kokanee at East lake when I'm in the area.  Tried using a clear bobber and fly setup with no success so far.  Long overdue for learning to fly fish, but plan to give it the old college try this summer.

Congrats on the change of scenery and good luck out there.

Just went out and explored the highlakes south of Mt. Bachelor. Beautiful country and a kick to kayak.  Does anyone know if there are any fish up there? Not much showed up on my FF.
