So I just ordered a GoPro HD Hero 2.  One thing that i haven't seen discussed is the memory cards that you all use.  Brands? Size?

Is it better to get the full 32G or a couple 16G cards?

How much footage can you take before needing to change cards?

Any tips on using the camera's in general?

Thanks all!

32GB are nice because of the room, but unless you have 2 or 3 spare GoPro batteries and a weekend to edit 10 hours of video I wouldn't bother getting something so large. I would say 8-16 gb is pefect. I was just researching the same topic yesterday and one thing I found more important than gb size is the speed of the memory card. The minium (from what I've read) is a Class 4. I would go Class 6 or 10 and a write speed of 24-30 mbs.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I went with the full 32, but only due to Costco and their enticing sales.  I forget what speed I got, but it is pretty high.  So far, so good.  I usually set mine up to take still photos.  I don't really do much that is cool enough to warrant video.  I've never come close to filling it, but usually wipe it after 300 or so pics.....

I'm trying to remember the details but my recollection was a 16gig card and a single battery both lasted about 2.5 hours. I carry two spare cards and two spare batteries per camera for a full day of shooting. That's at 1080p...uh...maybe. Maybe that was for my original 720p camera.

I turn off the camera after every event so when I go to edit, I can look just at the end of the clips. I typically do it for just my head mounted cam though. But it gives me a rough idea where to look on my continuosly running pole mounted cam.

I'll have a better idea soon. Currently running 2 hero 2's, and one 720p gopro.

AJ- Are you trying to tell us filling a boot with canine fecal matter isn't cool? I would have enjoyed that footage.

Meathead wake boarders, Hagg Princesses? If you would have had the GoPro years ago you would have quite the highlight reel by now.

Oh Banger, video is SO MUCH MORE dangerous in a court of law.  Because knowing me, I'd have a few too many pulls off of the port wine and decide that uploading the footage to NWKA was, in fact, a brilliant idea.  I am looking forward to Hagg'ing that thing this summer.  I fully plan on compiling a reel of WTF-is-that-surfboarding-contraption looks from wakeboat captains.

POV footage of INSAYN and I pounding Tecates in the Lakestop market parking lot would be sweet, too.

How did I possibly get involved with this side of the conversation? :dontknow:

I dug through the net and found the Class 10 Sandisk 32G Extreme for under $60 w/free shipping.
I chose it because of the elements that this card could be exposed to with me running it.  I ride ATV's in the muddy forests, salty sand dunes, cold wintery snow and of course kayaking in all kinds of water conditions.  It is labeled waterproof, temperature proof, shock proof, and even xray proof.  It has more than enough capacity for a day or two adventure, especially with a pair of Wasabi 1400mah backup batteries.

I decided to go with a SanDisk Extreme 16GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model SDSDRX3-016G-A21

Just one of them at the moment.  I figure I'll get another one once I get a second battery.
Btw, not a bad price if you are shopping around right now.
