98 pounds hull weight !   Might need a winch to get that up on the racks.

That thing weighs more than my big PA that's a 2010 model.  I think mine is only 88 lbs hull weight.  Crazy.  Definitely stick with what I've got.  Now if I just had a fleet of outbacks like coosbay
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

Weights of Hobies is something commonly discussed over on the Hobie site. The listed weights are of the bare hulls after they come out of the mold, and before any hardware is added. Apparently, this is done by most or all of Hobie competitors also. The true riggeded weight is considerably more. For example, my Oasis has a listed weight of 79 pounds. On my scale, it weighed 92 pounds as I cartop it - no seats, drives, paddles, etc. With those items added, I got up to 117 pounds.

There has been quite a few angry Hobie customers over this issue, with acknowledgement by Hobie representatives. It may be that Hobie is now trying to publish more accurate weights for kayaks as they are actually used. Kudos to Hobie if this is the case.

Some threads to reference, if you are interested:

On the PA

Update - I went and looked at the Hobie pages, and they are publishing new weights for all their kayaks; they now include the weight of the hull with fittings added. Sometimes, progress (and the right kind of progress) is made!

My TI was listed at 190 "fully rigged". I'd need a truck scale to weigh it now.

I can lift the Coosa pretty easily onto my roof racks.

First, yeah Jeff, she's a sexy little bugger! Next, really guys? Same comments that we've heard since the PA first came out. To recap this isn't a kayak, it's labeled a "Mirage Drive Boat". In the boat category 98 pounds is very lightweight. This boat is for people who dig fishing anything but the roughest of ocean conditions. This is going to be a great boat for those who like to load their PA in their pickup truck bed. A sweeet new seat, slick tackle hatch, steering handles on both sides, and trans/FF system are some great additions. Some people may be bummed that Hobie hasn't introduced a PA ocean going super fish killer (I'm really looking forward to that day too) but we've already got 6 kayaks (Outback, Revolution (11' & 13'), Quest (11' & 13') and Adventure) that do the job great. If the number of Hobie kayaks mushrooming in the NW are any indication, I think there's many who agree. But fret not boyz, I have a feeling all the advances made with the PAs will cross over into an insane kayak we're all looking forward to. Until then, for all the WA boyz, I will have one of these soon if anyone wants to take it for a spin and OR boyz, shops should have these in around June. Sure the Next Adventure boyz and Kayak Shed will post when they get theirs in.

"Fitted Hull Weight"  on all models.  I like it.  It's a lot more accurate.

I'd love to see that transducer well incorporated in all the Hobies - that is really sweet! The chair looks good, but I am always a little suspicious of anything with a lot of adjustment, especially when it involves detents, cams, and levers. Time will tell on that one. Overall, I like it. Zee's right - it looks perfect for pickup bed loading, and for use in lakes, rivers, and easy ocean launches. Who knows, in the right hands, some surf might be possible too.

Looks to be almost perfect for Oregon Tidewater/inland river salmon.  In the future can see the Outback becoming obsolete.

The new PA seems to move around pretty well. Seems like a great boat for lakes and streams. Doesn't really look like a kayak though, more like a 1 person row boat. Still looks like fun.
