So after a few trips out in the new outback, I've got one more hole to drill.  I need a place to put my rod while dealing with a fish or changing bait/lures.  I'd like to put it behind my left hip, which would put my rod tip fairly close to my body.

I have several Scotty flush mounts I can use, but would need the gear head mount. Or I could get a ram ball and ram rod holder.  What do you think?  Ideas?

Ive got a tube rod holder on a ram ball mount for just this purpose. Its the setup Hobie sells as a package. I haven't mounted it yet though.

I love having a rod holder at my hip or just behind it so I know how you feel.  Here's the thread for my Revo; you can see how I mounted my RAM Revo Tubes.  I actually use the Ram balls that are mounted immediately behind my seat more now for my quick, at-the-hip rod storage instead of the ones located just forward of the molded rod holders.  You'll have more choices for where to mount yours since the Outbacks have much more real estate for rigging.  Good luck and post some pics when you're done.

Golly geez rawky....you have lots of gadgets, gizmos, and doodads on your rig.  I don't have quite that many, but close.  I like the spot you have yours, but I'll have to play around with the extra real-estate my outback has.  The one thing I've been trying to do is keep everything low profile.  I guess I'll figure it out and show off the end result.
