Yeah - So I was sitting in my yak with the legs over either side and thought... "you know, I bet that, from below, I look like a giant seal".  I chuckled and went back to fishing.  Later I got to thinking about how I bleed my fish... and they were in the back of the boat... and the blood was draining into the water... uh, oh... I hear the familiar, duuuuuh, dup, duuuuuh, dup, duuuh, dup, duh, dup... so I have a yak for sale (not really for sale).

Is this of any concern?

I also don't want to die as I am dragging my limbless, except one arm, body from the water... or wondering why I am looking at the underside of my kayak as it is getting smaller (because I am being drug to a dinner date)... given that I have never heard of a shark attack in recent history I am not particularly concerned... but it is worth considering... I think?

OK so maybe this will help, If you check at a few Dive shops The may have Shark repellent or air horn to water to scare them off , But Most sharks Don't attack Humans on purpose, and GRT Wht's attacks are Not the Norm..However The Only way to truly Avoid them ,Stay out of the water,if something doe's bite we perfer not to worry about it till it doe's Try not to hang your catch on a stringer in water and at least the sharks will keep the seals away.

specifically - is it a bad idea to bleed your fish if the blood is going into the water?  or is that not really enough blood to make a difference.

I don't think we get GWS's up here.  I know they have them occasionally in OR.  I'm on the Sound portion of the state, and I can't recall ever hearing of a GWS in the Sound.  There might have been one or two, but a long time ago.  They don't seem to be at inclined to be resident around WA.

If you're that worried about the fish blood, get a bucket or something to bleed them in.  Then just dump the blood once in a while and leave the area afterwards.

How nice of gear do you have? If you have a bunch of nice lightly used gear that you are thinking of selling cheap b/c of a concern over getting eaten by a GWS then yes you should be very worried!
The next time might be your last time and you should liquidate your stuff immediately! ... to me  ;D

The chance of getting bitten is low but there still is a chance. Each of us handles it different ways. Some don't worry about. Some take precautions. Some fish in lakes .....

To each his own.

If you die first we are splitting up your gear.

Are we talking about the sound here?

There's LOTS of GWS in OR, GWS have been caught in nets right in front of Westport, and there's an account of a GWS taking out someone's salmon gear at the boat in Puget Sound. The GWS range reaches all the way up past Alaska's Aluetian Islands and the Salmon shark (smaller version of GWS) are also in the area. When in saltwater we're all in the food chain.

Back in the 1960s and 1970s we had resident tiger sharks in Puget Sound.  As the sea lion population declined the tigers left.  Now that the sea lion populations have recovered and are increasing I expect the tiger sharks to return.  Maybe you'll be the first to let us know!

I tell my wife the most dangerous part of my day of fishing is the car ride to the beach. I don't worry too much about fish blood. I figure the sharks you have worry about don't have fish on the menu.
