That poor kid. I bet his parents sue the shit out of Spokane Parks, I'm no fan of courts or attorneys, but that sounds like negligence to me.

My condolences to the family and friends of the kid who died.
That said, it sounds like the whole group qualifies for a Darwin Award.  That was just plain stupid.

This is very sad! Im glad I had a good teacher when I first started in this sport. Safety was everything and he made sure I was comfortable close to shore before we set out.

Condolences to the family  :(

I'm just astounded that an outdoor program at a college/university, with two staff along, would go out in those conditions so underprepared.

That's really sad, but 36 degree water, 34 degree air and they had on street clothes? That does not make any sense at all, even in dead calm, flat water.
