FYI:  The gas station mini mart at the top of the hill usually has decent selection of jigs and bodies.  Also,I'm talking with Hogg's Hardcore Tackle about having a booth with gear for sale onsite.

Sweet! Did they restock their selection of jigs at the shop? When we were there for the Springer clinic it was pretty cleaned out.

I'm sure I'll end up buying gear from them if they show up :)

I changed my arrival date at Depoe to the 13th Wed.  I've called and made my reservations.  $15/night isn't a bad price.  If I cant find anywhere else to fish, I might change my reservation to Tuesday......  There has to be somewhere to fish in the area :P

I'm also going to need camping areas if you have any to recommend.  The PDX area is going to be tough for this i think :(

Justin,  Champoeg State park. It's on the Willamette near Newberg.

Hopefully without the dope. It's Depoe, not Dope-o. I was around in the Woodstock era, just never understood the joy of losing my mind. Seems now age is doing it for me with without the psychedelic colorfulness.

My last post appeared to be a non-sequitur (validating my premise). It was in response to Sherm's "Depoestock" comment.

Our ORC adventure stars on5/17 as we head off from Tx, we will first land in ya'lls country at Brookings and will stay at Harris Beach for 4 days, before heading on t Sunset. Has anyone fished that area(Brookings)? I'll not be there til the 27th as we are touristing our way cross country.

Alot of the state parks have overflow tent camping and it is cheaper than reserving a site and no reservation is required. Besides Champoeg, there is Milo McIver state park on the Clackamas. You could paddle out and camp on Government Island on the Columbia. There are lots of nice forest service campsites along the Clackamas River.  Some Forest Service are first come first serve. Or,  you can just sleep on the ground by the Steele Bridge in downtown Portland, but I dont recommend that and you will have company.

will be at DB for ORC if all works out at Sunset while I'm there from 6/1 to 6/6. I f I see any of ya'll and you can give me tips it'll be a good thing. I can't find any of the heavier jigs etc that ya'll are talking about. Hope I can get them up there. See you on or around the salt. My list is getting checked off and will be leaving Tx next week.
Awesome to hear you'll make it! There will be plenty of places along the coast you can pick up the jigs. You can even buy them at the Shell gas station at the entrance to Depoe Bay.

I live in Depoe Bay.  As you enter from the south, there is a Shell station that has some stuff.  He has a large array of weights and jigs.  I don't recall what he has in the way of plastics.  I can go check easily enough though.  As you enter from the north, there is a 76 station.  They too, have a decent array of jigs, weights and nice large plastics.  And the 76 station mini mart is practically a grocery store!  The new owners have really stepped the place up.  Really nice inside, and has just about anything you may need.  Even a small amount of produce.  Both spots have frozen herring and / or anchovie for you off-the-rocks guys (me most of the year).  Squid in large frozen blocks can be had in Newport at Harry's Bait and Tackle...... an awesome place!

As I frequent the 76 station more than the Shell, I'll give them a heads up so they can make sure they have enough stock of lead and plastic.   ;)

I still need to get my first weekend's plans figured out.  At some point I need to go NextAdventure.net and look for a drytop,  Unless the kayakshed.com has better deals :P

Is anybody game for some sturgeon fishing?  I'd still really like to go fish the Big C. for some AOTY points but if that's not possible then the Willy would be fun too.  I know that I'm not going to fish the Big C. by myself.

I also need to plan out Monday and Tuesday.  I'd like to fish something between the PDX and Depoe Bay area.

I'm up for Sturgeon. The bite on the willy has been off the hook. Lots of reports of oversized fish taking prawn spinners :)

It's less then 2 weeks until I'm on the road and I still don't have my trip planned yet :(

I'd really like to know about the Columbia R. sturgeon fishing this time of year.  Is Rooster Rock out of the question?

I'm still plan on fishing at GR park on Sunday.  Please come down and join me if you get a chance.

Monday and Tuesday are still ???????  What water should I hit between PDX and Depoe Bay?

thanks in advance all!
