I'm thinking of putting a dimple in the sonar compartment of my T13.
The toggle latch screw head of the SD card cover on my FF rubs the hull when I stow the FF for launch, landing etc. I have tried partial stow but invariably it lays all the way down. I have also tried chaffing gear of many sorts. It always comes off or wears through.
You can could see in the photo (if I could ever get a photo to post) where the screw is scratching the plastic. Eventually to be a hole their if I don't do something about it.

So, how would one or should one go about making a dimple or warp in the hull intentionally to gain clearance? Any other ideas short of a different FF/GPS?

Very easy to do, but go slow.

I did something similar to what you are asking on my T13 so that I could fold down my Cuda head unit face flat.  The bottom would rub as I pivoted it down.  What I did was take an embossing gun (basically a heat gun for scrap booking) and carefully heat the offending area until it was pliable.  Then took a smooth and clean tool similar in shape and pressed firmly into the super soft plastic, just enough to get the impression I was looking for.  Then while still holding the tool in place, I flash cooled it with a spray bottle of water.
The impression took set and is still there 4 years later.

If you are looking for a small surface area and slightly deeper than what I did, you can heat the plastic the same way as I did and then press a the ball side of a ball peen hammer into the heated soft plastic.  Cool it quickly with water.

DO NOT apply heat to the hammer head and try pressing into cold plastic.  It doesn't work the same, as it will just melt the plastic into a sticky mess.  A hair dryer doesn't quite have the BTU's to get it soft enough, but a heat gun with careful application will work great.  The embossing gun works better as it creates a smaller affected area than a general heat gun will.

Excellent! I was thinking heat and pressure but some how a hot poker and a lot of force didn't sound right. I have a piece of a hatch cut out  I can practice on.

Thanks for the wisdom.

You can practice on a plastic bucket as well.  Similar material, yet thinner so you can get a feel for it.
