Is there a way to connect your seat so the back rest is more rigid... or at least so the seat doesn't slide forward?  For the life of me, I can't figure it out.

I have this same issue.  I've tightened the straps but it still seems to slip and the seat slides forward. :(

maybe some duct tape on the straps to keep them from slipping?

It's tough to know what's going on and what needs to be done to fix it without more details of your situation.  What kind of seat do you have?  How many connection straps does it have?  Any pics you could post to give us an idea of what you're working with?

I have the OK stock - comfort deluxe - seat for the Trident 13.  It has two straps on each side.  I can take some pics if that will help... but it will have to be later.

It just takes practice.

But, in short you need to adjust the bottom straps so that in the end, your strap is in a direct line from the pad eye to the bottom of the seat.  This means the slip collar that moves up and down along the rear strap from the bottom of the seat to the top of the back, needs to be somewhere behind and below the hump in the kayak behind the seat towards the pad eye.  You'll want to make the bottom straps a fixed situation so that this is just one time deal, and the top of the rear straps on the back will be the adjustable ones from here on out for each time you clip your seat on.

If you have the seat snapped into place, and see that this collar is riding centered and high above the hump behind the seat, you will have butt slide.  Why, because the upper straps are pulled too short, and the lower straps are adjusted too long.  When you lean back, the butt slides forward as your back tilts backward. The high riding collar will act like a pivot point.

If the lower straps are at the correct length, then the strap is already as long as it will ever be from the pad eye to the seat, and won't allow the seat to move.

Once you have the lower rear straps exactly where you want them, the final adjustments are the lean on the back itself.  If you want the seat to lean forward, loosen the upper rear straps and take up the slack with the front straps.  Do the opposite if you want the seat to lean back.

I guess it's really called an adjustable slide, rather than a collar.

Note: It's easier to do the initial adjusting of the rear straps if you spray some mild soap or hair conditioner on the straps first to make them slide easier.  Then once you have them adjusted, give it a good rinse off.

Here is a basic OK video that can give you an idea what it should look like when adjusted to work right.

Add a cinch knot to the excess strap to keep it from slipping.

Photos a little blurred but workable:
