Pressed for time with a rare weekend off, I decided to stay close to home and fish Admiralty Bay for Hali's(no more Butt's) on Sat. Hit the water at daybreak not expecting much due to the Neap tide minimal exchange and was not disappointed. Fair amount of Pb's out there with many anchored up. I drifted but had to pedal a bit to change positions
on the water. Dropped my offering in water from 90-200' and all I can say was that it was great to be on the water. Just love it when you're the only yak out and people look at you and go WTF are you doing? I'm fishing,Dude. What's it look like i'm doing ::) when back at shore I dumped my blue dyed Horse herrings back into the drink and a geriatric lady came by and was mystified by the "Blue fish". She picked them up and told me she had never eaten a blue fish. I told her it was bait and was dyed but she wanted to show Hubbie and try them out. Once again, I said do not eat. They are dyed and bait. She said
"They died"? Yes they are dead, but dyed blue. At that point, I gave up. Hope the folks are still alive! All chatter on the vhf indicated poor fishing from this area and didn't see any gaffing, clubbing, harpooning or shooting of Hali's. Just nice to be out except my combo unit has crapped out after 3 years of use. Garmin tells me "I'm the only one that they every have heard of with this type of problem". Yeah,RIGHT :o They said they have a great fix with a refurbished unit for only $160(gpsmap 440s). I declined figuring that if they have these there has been a problem with this on many of these units. Will look at either a Lowrance or Humminbird combo. Hope others had a better "catching" day but I had fun and decompression.
