I'm sure many of you have already seen this, but for those who haven't it's a good heads-up.  It is that time of year again so if you see the signs, make sure you stop, else you risk a $142 fine.

"Boat Inspections are Mandatory"

Quote
Motorists are alerted to inspections stations by orange “Boat Inspection Ahead” signs. All vehicles carrying kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, sailboats and any other boats, non-motorized or motorized, are required to stop.

I'll stick to back roads. Got buzzed by Coast Guard chopper at Depoe Bay today.

I have a feeling that I'll get a ticket for this.  I just won't be paying attention to the signs. :(

I just clean my boat and trailer and never worry about it.

I recently noticed a local driving away from the Westport boat ramp with a huge amount of seaweed hanging from the back of his boat trailer, whistlin' dixie and without a care in the world as he drove away.
It was ridiculous! I had to laugh, because some poor bloke elsewhere, with only a small amount of lake weed that he overlooked when attempting to comply with the regs, will likely get a ticket.

I don't think there are any penalties for being contaminated, just fines for not paying for the Invasive Species permit, or for not stopping for inspection stations. In fact, you get a free pressure wash if you have a contaminated boat.

I had to stop at an inspection station in Idaho two years ago after coming through Montana.  It was awesome! The weather was real hot and the two young women running the inspection station were keeping themselves cool in an inflatable pool. :o

In fact, I made a u-turn at the next exit just so I could get inspected again...three more times. j/k.

Driving from Boston to Portland with 2 kayaks on my car I got stopped in Wyoming and Idaho.  Both times they let me go when I said the last place I used the kayaks was the Atlantic Ocean.
I really hope I get stopped by one in Oregon, it will be nice to know my $7 is actually going to what it was intended for.

$4.99 at REI.  I wish I would have known that the last 2 years.  I would be $8 richer. :)
