No need to pig pile, but mods should delete this. I don't want to see anybody drown on a Sevylor. Not really any kind of deal either.

This is a Craigslist item, not really NWKA worthy.

Guys,

Let's not make an issue of this.  Anyone is free to sell anything somewhat relevant for whatever they want.

I understand the reluctance to embrace members posting in the classifieds with their very first post.  Perhaps we will make this forum open to members with 10 posts or more like we do some of the other forums.  This will eliminate any such "issues" in the future.

Drown?  From what?  I used to have one of those and it was the most stable kayak I ever sat in.  I caught steelhead on the wynoochee river with it and blew right through white water holes.  The material was really durable too.

I dunno, looks like you could catch a fish out of that.  What's that thing weigh?  May be fun for someone wanting to hike up a river and fish/paddle on the way down.  Some of these "performance" oriented IFKs can be pretty sturdy.  I'm surprised they don't get more hike-in exposure on forums like this.  Maybe it's the weight.

I had (have) an SVX 200 (same boat but bigger) and it was one of the best fishing boats I've owned........When it held air!!!!!!!!

Actually, I really did like that boat, but I had a constant factory problem with the bladders. The hull was plenty strong, but the bladders leaked from day 3.  Manufacturer was totally unresponsive. :angryfire:

Note the wrinkles in the boat:

caveat emptor! They may have improved since then, but I'd have to see it inflated for a couple of days. :-\
Again, I really really liked that boat when it did not leak, and Lee said he enjoyed his. so YMMV.

You learn something new everyday, I take it back. All I've ever seen from Sevylor were crappy rubber rafts and pool toys made from old shower curtains. Apparently they have some higher end product lines I was unaware of.

I don't have anything against people trying to sell stuff with their first post if it's a good item and someone in NWKA can use it.

I apologize to the OP and wish him the very best of luck in all of his future endeavors.

I am curious...what does that thing weigh in at?  And how big does it pack down?  And are the valves some weird proprietary fitting?

I didn't have that exact model, but it was really similar.  Weighed around 40 pounds and came with pump and seat.  The valve for the floor had two prongs on either side that you'd twist on to lock it, and all the valves were made not to release air until you wanted them to.  Mine developed a leak near the valve seal after about 2 years (but leaked so slow it didn't matter) and I had to patch a hole I put in it the first year I owned it.

Yeah it weighs in at around 40. If you guys are wondering about durability check out this video where the guy walks across the dropstitch floorpiece, pretty impressive. It has 3 separate air chambers so if one did happen to go it would still keep you afloat.  As far as the material is concerned think commercial rafting boats.

Oh and sorry about the sale on the first post I've got. Didn't really think about that frustrating folks here

Mine weighted in at a bit over 60lbs and that made it oversized luggage (the main reason I bought it was to travel), but mine was  (is) a tandem.

Oh you were right. There is no need to take that back. Most of what they make are crappy rubber rafts and pool toys. But the things folk do with the crappy rubber rafts is pretty amazing. Google "Orange Torpedoes". Folk have been taking those inflatable shower curtains into Class IV water for years.

People also go over Niagara falls in a barrel :dontknow:

Their "higher end" models really are fairly good quality and compare favorably to the Aire and Innova inflatables (for considerably less money).
The year after I bought mine ::), they came out with the drop stitched floor where the top of the balloon is connected to the bottom of the balloon by hundreds of threads on the inside. That spreads the load on the skin and lets you inflate it to fairly high pressure making a really stiff balloon (think spoked bicycle wheels) Assuming it does not leak, that makes for a stiff floor and thus a stiff boat........Assuming it does not leak

Did I mention I had a bit of trouble with mine leaking?

Both kayaks have sold. Thanks guys. Now any recommendations for SOTs (non inflatable) that would work for Crabbing. Mainly we tour on our kayaks but it'd be fun to go out on the Sound and soak some pots.

Ocean Kayak and Wilderness Systems (just naming 2 brands) make a lot of models of SOT's that would work fine.

capacity first, followed by stability. how tall are you? how heavy?how many traps do you want to manage?  remember those figure into a sot as well as a sink.

what are the waters like where you want to crab? choppy?, shallow and rocky? estuary? deep bay?

paddling, i'd say an OK Trident or new series Ultra starting at 13 feet. Maybe a Malibu X Factor or Cobra navigator or Fish n Dive.

If you insist on a Hobie single, and can afford them, go with the Outback.  it's got more capacity, more beam and more stability than the Revo. I know Zee uses his Adventure to crab, but he's been doing this a lot longer than i ever will..

use the search function, there's several videos on here that you'll find helpful
