A little bit of difference of opinions on this subject in the AOTY thread so I'll put it to the vote.  I'll make the call after ~10 votes are posted so get your vote in if you want to be heard.

The following rules would be in effect and are taken from the AOTY thread.

Quote
I've been thinking about how to designate these "bonus events".  Before designating Drano, I wanted to make sure to think out what other events might be.  But then I got to thinking that I was thinking about it too much.

So enough thinking.  Any event that has 10 or more kayak anglers fishing in it may be designated a bonus event with the longest targeted qualified fish caught getting 150 bonus points and a piece of NWKA schwag.  Brian, is it difficult to retrofit this into the AOTY SW?

Let me qualify:

1) An event is defined as a gathering of 10 or more kayak fishermen that was posted here in advance, that lasts 1 or more consecutive days.  A weekend of fishing will not have 2 sets of bonus points given out.  It will have one set of bonus points (plus schwag) given out for the whole weekend.  I reserve the right to disqualify any event for any reason or to increase the minimum number or participants at any time (but come on now, I'm not that heavy handed so I don't expect this to happen).
2) Longest, yes longest, not heaviest.  I also said targeted.  For example if we're targeting springers at Drano, I don't want to see someone slide into a slough and pick up a dink smallmouth to get the points if no one catches a springer.
3) A "qualified fish" means it's one of the fish on the AOTY list
4) The schwag is still to be designed and designated.
5) I will post in the thread discussing the hookup if it has been designated a bonus event and what the targeted fish are for that event  It will help if you post if you think you'll definitely be there.  If 10 people don't show, the event shall lose it's bonus event status and the no shows shall be mercilessly degraded by their peers here.

Quote
How about we limit the bonus points such that an individual can only win one bonus event and are not eligible to win points in events after that?  That effectively caps how many bonus points one can get.  Past winners can block others from gaining points by catching the biggest fish in other events, but they won't get additional points

Pole,
I voted no on the sole basis that some of us can not or do not travel much and most of these events are not in our back yard so to speak.
However, a second division titled "best of events" would be coool with me.

Polepole,

I vote a big yes!  I like it just like you've written it up in the post above.  I'm like you in that I like the idea of stirring up some excitement about "let's get out and fish together".

If I'm reading the rules right, you've limited the bonus points that any angler can pick up from such a bonus category would be 150 points for the year and no more.  Well I say that you've found a good middle ground between the yay's and the nay's.  I can't tell if 150 will be a ton of points and really skew things or if it's about right.  That will obviously have to be your call.

I'd also say that most of us in northern Wa. are just about as likely to miss an event in Oregon as Oregonians are to miss the ones up here.

If at first you don't succeed....  maybe skydiving is just not for you.

4 to 5.  Too close to call yet.  The way I look at it, there are a couple of dark horse fish in the mix.  If you catch a sturgeon or a halibut, you're sitting pretty.  Would 150 points from from an event based bonus be the difference between a win and a loss.  Maybe, maybe not.  Some people may look at it as an equalizer of sorts.

Anyway ... keep the votes coming.  It's too close to call right now, so I'll leave this poll open until Friday midnight and make the call then.

And oh, for those of you that have already voted, but haven't signed up for the AOTY, please do so.  I've intentionally stalled on soliciting more prizes until I see more participation.  It's a fine balance to maintain.

Charlie 8,

I'm with you.  Anything that promotes the guys getting together for a good time fishing is what I want to be a part of.
Hey, anybody out there listening?

Sign up for the AOTY and plan on a good time!  Drano Lake on the Columbia in April!

Even though I probably won't make any of the events, I think it would be good for the board.
Besides, I don't need no stinkin bonus points to beat you guys......as long as salmon sharks aren't on the list.

The vote is 7-5, we need one more 'yes' vote to end this sucker-- come on vote!

On a somewhat unrelated topic-- As I was sweeping floors and general cleanup around the house on a Saturday morning with no wind outside (let me repeat-NO wind blowing), in order to secure more WAF points, it occurred to me that those in the AOTY without live-in companionship-such as wives, should consider starting the tourney with a minus 150 (-150) points in order to even things up for those of us less fortunate.

Otherwise, surely I would be measuring the first fish in this tournament.

So, if you are not cleaning house-- get the hell out on the water.

Thanks so much.

Rob.

Rob,
just because some of us are single, or unattached,  doesn't mean we have all the time in the world either!  :P some of us have employment that demands we work 6 days or more a week, sometimes months at a time straight thru.

and , contrary to the popular notion that us singles are total slobs, and don't clean up behind ourselves, [ where the hell did that come from any ways?  ???]  many of us older guys do know how to keep house too...we have to, we're the only ones here..

so, we don't always get to go play outside much either...so why should we start at a disadvantage? [ allen, i'll enroll in a few days.. working issues here ]

btw, i like the apron you had on..... >:D

Rich-  Just smack talk-- I was bored, sorry if that BS sounded in any way serious.  Guess I just wanted to be out fishin. ;)
