Fisherman's Marine had a great deal on the Uniden Atlantis 250. I picked it up for $79.  Regularly $100.  Haven't opened the box. Any body have an opinion?

W

I started with that model. It works, takes a beating but does not float.
I still have it, but upgraded to the Standard Horizons HX851 when the 250 would get loopy on me and start flipping channels on me randomly.  It got wet many times.

I would say it is more of a power boat handheld VHF, but for a kayak it is better than no VHF.

Not to get too far off your original question, Wobbler, but my impulse purchase of the mic set for the Cobra turned out to be most awesome.  The mic seems much louder and the Tx button is much easier to push. Thanks DTS.
