Does anyone have a spare or used mirage drive they’d like to sell?  I’m an idiot and LOST mine this weekend.  I know it’s unlikely, but I figure I’d put it out there.

I’m hoping to find one for a cheaper than $540 (new price with turbo fins) is crazy expensive.

Have you thought about putting a "Lost" sign up where you um... left it?

You never know man, there are a few decent people still out there, and you might get it back.

I have to ask... How did you lose your mirage drive?? Did you forget it somewhere or did you donate it to Davy Jones' locker?

Exactly what I was thinking. Most people would probably mutter something along the lines of: "What the *bleep* is this contraption with pedals and fins?".

Hope you get it all sorted Rumluck

I have seen them on Craigslist PDX from time to time.  Noah pointed out one to me once and I tried to buy it for my wooden SOT Kayak, but I asked too many questions and the guy wouldn't give me his phone number, he wanted mine instead. I pointed out that he was the one selling it not me and he cut off communications with me. I set up a google number for the transaction, but I couldn't get him to respond again. I figured it was stolen because his BS story was that he sold the kayak separately  ::).   My plan was to meet him, get his license plate number (and phone number), buy the drive, then have the serial number run to see if it was stolen.  I think he caught on.

Craig you're either a detective by trade or you really hate thieves. Either way, bravo. :D

Nope, Davy didn’t get it…but I’m sure someone did.

Basically I'm an idiot: I was out crabbing/camping with my kids in Tillamook Bay area and had a bunch of gear.  While loading up to head home I strapped the boat to the roof, loaded up the camping gear, then started talking to someone and got sidetracked.  I believe I placed the drive in the back of the kayak on my roof (don't ask...I'm an idiot).  I did a double check to be sure no gear was left laying around and drove off…didn’t even realize I was missing it until I got back to Portland.  I’ve been back and searched the road pretty thoroughly and found nothing.

I’ve done this plenty of times with a cup of coffee but…man this one hurts.  Trust me, there has been a lot of cursing, searching…and maybe a bit of crying since then.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will keep my eye on Craigslist.

Zee, that is a good idea and I think worth the effort.  Looks like I’ll be making a 'lost drive' sign and heading back there again.
