I'm heading east June 6th through the 10th and want to get some fishing in.  I don't have a lot of experience over there; I've only ever fished the Deschutes and not had a lot of luck.

Any suggestions for good bass or trout spots.

Kind of depends on your style of angling.  Lots of great fly spots, but they require some skill.  Lots of lakes up around Bachelor.  The scenery of Sparks is hard to beat.  Again, some lockjaw on the fish if you're sloppy in technique.  Like me.  Closer to Sisters, the yak trolling is pretty good at Suttle.  Maybe threecreeks will chime in; he's over there and seems to have it dialed.

Hey Rummy,

The Jade is correct, I call Bend home and may have a few ideas. Are you a spin rod guy or bug wand guy or both?

I'm a spinner, but the bug wand is on my list to learn...problem is the list keeps growing.

I hear that!  The big Deschutes really isn't worth your time. Lakes are where it's at. Sparks and Todd are just up the hill from Bend proper. But, I haven't been over that way yet so I'm unsure about the snow. Sparks is probably accessible, Todd may have some snow still. Early morning it is probably doable with a cart, afternoon may be a slog when the snow warms up....

If you're inclined to travel a little south, the Lavas offer good trouting as does Crane Prairie but she's a finicky date for sure. There also are the Twins, but the Coors Light hatch is upon us :)

I'm slated to work each of your days except the 10th. I may be able to steal away, though, if you'd like company.

Thanks Three: after looking at the map I'm thinking that Sparks has to be pretty awesome.  I love those Sisters and imagine the view from there is amazing.

I'm going to shoot for heading out early either that Friday or Saturday; my plans are indefinite as they revolve around family activities.  I will likely be fishing solo so company would be great.  If you’d, like I can PM you as the date gets closer and see what happens.  Let me know.

Thanks again
Dave

Sparks IS awesome! Fly only, am I right?  Worth going to for the paddle alone! Did it a few times last summer.

True dat, Jade! 'Tis for the fly.... I'll ask around about Todd. If you're carted, it may be the place to be...

I did Hosmer last year for the first time. I fished it late June. It has some fickle brookies but the atlantic salmon came pretty easy. It's a fly fishing only lake and a catch and release game for the atlantics but if you get one of the big brookies, it's dinner. Morning and evening seemed best. The water is gin clear and it's fun to see the fish in the shallows but frustrating as well when they lockjaw.

I have been fishing up north lakes Ochoco and Billy Chinook.  The Deschutes has been blown out the last few weeks.  I was at Billy Chinook last weekend for a hike and the Crooked River arm was boiling. Not sure what the hatch was, but the fish were going wild. The crappy and bass were biting directly across the lake from the boat ramp at Ochoco.  Will have to migrate down to the lakes around Bend soon.

Funny story, but I haven't fished Hosmer for years. Not sure why. The northern arm is worth venturing into just to see...on a sunny day it almost looks like a bonefish flat.

Devil's lake may also be an option for you now that I think of it. It's near Mt. B as is Todd and Sparks.

Let me know how your plans develop and I'll see if I can break free for an outing.
