I use live sandshrimp quite a bit, and with good results.
I've tried frozen...might as well use a rock...
But I AM curious if anybody has used cured shrimp (in general...for anything)...and if anyone has cured their own.
Bait shops sell it (BiMart too)...so it can be done I guess...
Like I said, I'm curious and looking for input (already did a search here...very limited results)

Gonna go mad scientist on some and see if I can come up with a Franken-shrimp

I've found that the cured sand shrimp that you buy in the store to be almost worthless.  You cant hardly put a hook into them without falling apart, and then still fall off unless tied with magic thread.  Live sand shrimp stay on a lot better.

For sturgeon fishing I get the live ones then, if I have any left I freeze them.  I have found the frozen ones work as well as the live ones, which do not live real long after having a 7/0 hook run through them.  The frozen ones are vastly superior to the cured shrimp.  The cured shrimp fall apart and do not stay on the hook very long.

I've only bought cured shrimp once...was far from pleased...they didn't seem tough enough for me...
The couple times I've used frozen, I didn't fair as well as with live....well duh!  :P

I get tired of tossing unused tired shrimp, thought I'd give curing 'em a go...
But...I'm not really sure if it's even worth it...maybe just mash 'em up, strain and use the "juice" out of an old squirty jug...

I've never actually caught anything here on sand shrimp or prawns but one trick I've heard of is buying edible frozen cooked and peeled shrimp (Walmart, etc.) and popping them in the microwave for 30-60 seconds to toughen them up a bit. They stay on the hook real nice...maybe that's just because they're unmolested by finny predators.
