WOW,  what a place to fish!!  I started my trip back on Tues. morn,  with a 1 hr. truck drive, 3 hr. flight, followed by a 5 hr. flight and then followed by another 5 hr. flight and then a 1 hr. bus ride to mid town Mathattan to be at work by 8 AM. 7500 miles and 21 hr. commute and I was ready to start my 15 hr. work day.

The fishing was insane,  with many big GT's and about 20 other different species of snappers, groupers and every other excotic species that I had no idea what they were.   The fishing mainly consisted of jigging in water from 50 feet to 300 feet.  After the 300 feet,  the water was about 1000 feet,  which made for impossible jigging.  We used butterfly jigs from 5-7 oz.  and the weight was needed with the strong winds and fast moving current.   It was very rare that we went 5 drops without a fish.

There was also crazy action on the flats with big GT's caught on bait while standing on the flats and throwing chunks of bait into the deeper water.  If you wanted to catch big fish all day,  that was the way to go.  I even drifted in my kayak in the deep water and landed plenty of GT's this way,  if standing on the flats is not your thing.

On one of my last drops, my line started heading for the surface and I looked up and saw a sailfish, about 6-7 feet long hooked up on my jig!  I locked down the reel and fought the fish for about a minute before it surfaced again about 50 feet in front of me.  After the second jump,  the line broke,  with my heart racing like crazy.  I will see that fish in my dreams for a looooong time!  What a sight.

The lodge was great,  with clean rooms, showers and air conditioners and all the meals were top notch.

I can't say enough great things about the trip, and for all of you people on the west coast, it's "almost" an easy commute!  LOL

If you want to experience a kayaking trip of a lifetime,  get in touch with Allen or BoogieD and start planning!

Here are a bunch of pictures from the trip.

It reminds me of a Cubera snapper.  I'm not sure if they have those on Christmas or not.

Nice pics Danny.  I talked Boogie for quite awhile on Friday and heard a bunch of stories.

Now booking ... Christmas Island Trip May 2013!!!   ;D
