Spent a few hours on Summit Lake today with a friend who had never caught a fish before, let alone from a kayak, on a rental hobie sport. I launched my friend first and he had some trouble getting the mirage drive seated properly. Finally I jumped into the sport, got it in after some "tough love", gave it back to my friend and hustled to the water in my adventure. Right after launching we let out some line and jointed rapalas. I CnR a small rainbow and turn around to see a jumping fish in front on my friend and a bent rod. With a little coaching he deftly landed a nice plump 14" rainbow. Not a bad first fish!

We trolled around for an hour or so, my friend filled his limit on 12"-14" rainbows and I flat lined a blue fox and tangled with a kokanee only to lose it after seeing that was in fact a kokanee, that feisty and tasty bugger got away when he was sooo close. All around us osprey were picking off rainbows in the shallows, one after the other. There must have been a half dozen osprey feeding at a given time, interrupting a tranquil sunday with their splashing and piercing cries.

Although the sport is very short, its surprisingly quick even with stock fins around a lake. Its amazingly light as well. Not a bad little boat for lakes and rivers, I was impressed.

I've spent a few hours fishing here and there the past month or so and have enjoyed the place a lot and even caught some kokanee, a first for me. Next time I head out there I'll take some pics of the scenery. Nice clean lake (used for drinking water), some decent fish and enough room and wildlife for an enjoyable outing. More than anything I was glad that my friend and my schedules' and the weather aligned and he caught fish, a limit no less, from a kayak.

Nice report.  It is always nice to read about new anglers getting their first fish!

Thanks for the report! There's SMB in that lake too. I've personally never targetted them, but know people that have.

Spend some time in the AM at summit lake. I was going for a couple of kokes and found some, lost a nice sized one (estimated ~14") right next to the boat as I didn't get the net ready in time.

Yet again, Summit Lake for kokanee. Had to go deeper but found em quick. Lost quite a few, one because I was fiddling with my drag, and plenty of spit-hooks, still I took home a 12"er and this guy.

Thanks. They sure love to throw the hook don't they? I've lost too many within within arms length so its definitely net all the way for me ;)

Since I have never caught this fish before, I started my research.  I ran into an article that seems to be the 'Bees knees' on Kokanee fishing.  Since Summit is so close to me, I plan on hitting it as early as this week, depending on SWMBO's needs.  Anyway, the read is long, but the content seems valid.  I would love to hear more about this fish and the fisheries in the area and try one of these "tasty num num" of a fish.

Another summit lake trip today. Got out right at the end of the 8pm-11am 5mph speed limit and lost a couple of kokanee before the jet ski crowd came out in full force. Man I utterly despise jet-skis...

After stowing my kokanee gear, I managed to find some bass near the docks trolling on the way back. This is the largest I caught:
