I just bought an Ascend FS-12 /sink last week. (First time kayaker long time boater and water enthusiast) I haven’t even had it out yet so I am excited to get it in the water this coming weekend. I was wondering what is the best PDF to get as far as comfort and price. Lots of pockets are not needed but a few would be nice. Also I am looking for something that is cool and comfortable. (Maybe something with a semi- mesh back) Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Rich

I'm sure if you search you'll find a lot of info.. the stohlquist asea looks nice and a few of the guys on here swear by it, but it's no longer in production. still available on amazon and what not but I like to try stuff on..

I bought the stohlquist drifter during rei member sale, I like it.. it's less bulky then say te fisherman pfd, two pockets and hand warmers. also has the plastac attachment things front and back. high back is comfy but no mesh. zips in the front along with one clip. I'm satisfied

I had the Stohlquist fisherman. Returned it for the Kokatat Bahai Tour. I'm 6'3 and 225lbs and it fits me beautifully. Great quality too.

I have the Extrasport Sturgeon, and I love it.  I love that it has has nice big pockets, often times i don't bring any other tackle other than what fits inside those pockets, which equals less clutter & easy access. I didn't think I'd ever use those pockets to their potential, but I'm surprised how much I do. They don't seem too big either, the only time they ever get in my way is with a rod with a really long handle.  Extremely comfortable too, has meshed shoulders for breathability, and a comfy waist strap/buckle in addition to the zipper to keep it from sliding up when you go in the drink.  It's a little pricey, about $120, but is worth it IMHO.

One thing that you might consider is a PFD with some reflective material.
Here is an example of the increased viz you get wearing a Kokatat bahia.
good luck in your search

The Kokatat Bahai Tour has a pocket on front specifically designed for a VHF radio. I use it all the time.

I have an ExtraSport I am happy with. Oddly, it says XXLarge, but I am 5'10" and 165 pounds and it fits me nicely.

I just bought two Cabelas brand manual inflatables for the wife and I $99.00. They are horse collar types. Type 3 Coast guard approved inflatables. We're happy with them. Total freedom of movement. Also available as auto inflators for about $30.00 more.
