It was good fishing with all of you guys. The wind was not fun. I tried moving around to find a good bite but only got a tiny rockfish. J-Fek yet again made the rest of us look bad by landing ANOTHER monster blue ling. Nice job man :)

On the upside I dropped a crab trap just south of the rock for the first time. We pulled it up after a four hour soak and it had 15 keepers in it! It was a little challenging getting it up with the wind and wind waves but the crabs were tasty :)

I made it out to PC as well today, but built sand castles and played in the water with my boys instead of fishing.  We had a blast.  My daughter got a little angry at Poseidon when an ankle slapper knocked her down. Of course she's pretty tiny for her age so it was a little higher than her ankles.

I originally planned to meet up with Insayn and Johnny5o in Astoria, but my stupid job got in the way again and I didn't get out of town until a little after noon.   My goal is to be in Ihop's position on 9/22/2022  ;D.

I met Pelagic pulling a couple yaks up the hill a little outside of Tillamook.  PP, was there a pretty bad accident towards Portland? I met several emergency vehicles running code to the east on Highway 6 just before passing by you.

I'm glad you guys all got out and TXpaddler got his Cabezon.

Speaking of work. Check this out, Worked Thursday night til 10:00 came home packed up gear asleep by 11:00 up at 4:00 left house at 4:30 on water and fishing by 7:00am. Back on beach pack up gear and kayak and heading back to PdX at 11:30. Get back clean all gear, clean fish, clean car, clean me and then go to work from 5 til 9:30. I think Ill sleep pretty well tonight but my brain is still thinking about fishing.

Glad everyone made it in OK. Cool shots of the Octopus. I was just wandering the other day how prevalent they were off the Oregon coast. Was it hard to get off the hook? Kicking myself for not bringing the crab trap but tried retrieving once before in a lot of wind and did not enjoy the experience at all.

Craig sorry you couldn't make it out on the kayak but sounds like you had just as good a time

We are having fun.  We are spending the night in Lincoln City and heading to the Hatfield Marine Science Thing-a-ma-jig to pet skates and flounder tomorrow.  If you see me post a flounder for AOTY and it looks like I was indoors, it is just the camera, honest. ;)

You're an inspiration!

Nice catch, langcod!

Rory and Craig,

I'm inspired by your fishing ability. I'm very fortunate that half a century of work, good health and a few good investments gives me the freedom to try and learn how to catch a fish from a plastic tub.

Today was good, bad and ugly. The good was my first surf launch which went very smoothly into a pretty friendly surf. The bad was getting skunked when I expected to score some AOTY and KW points (even worse was 4 of our 5 team members were there and we posted zilch!).

Here's the ugly...a few screenshots from my pathetic first attempted surf landing.

Here's the lesson (unless you have actual talent and don't huli): leash it if you want to keep it...and don't use a cheap leash. The one item on the yak I really didn't want to lose was the Mirage Turbo Drive. Sadly this was Wobbler's drive as he loaned me his Revo while he's on Safari in Africa. I planned to use my own drive since I have the nice Hobie leashes but when I opened the storage chest his drive was on top and I took it instead. It was leashed with a plastic clip makeshift leash I put together since Steve didn't have one. Seems every lesson cost a lot more than it has to, everything is clearer in hindsight.

Many thanks to Flying Portagee and J-Fek for their valiant efforts to find the drive, we spent a lot of time getting bashed by waves looking for it. Thanks also to Vern for his offer to look again at low tide tomorrow. Hope these screen shots help pinpoint the location.

Hey if that top pic is a screenshot from a video...lets see the huli vid  >:D

A carabiner tied to nylon rope works well as a mirage drive leash for me and in a pinch just a length of nylon rope. Very cheap, simple and strong.

For the mirage drive, a fairly heavy item, personally I wouldn't want an elastic leash that gives more room to smack/tangle and my perception of an increased risk of snapping.

Hope your drive turns up.

Ah well, sh*t happens. In the grand scheme it ain't no thing. The drive I mean.  The huli...that's just fun!

Tide was in when you lost it.  Might be a chance that someone launching during dory days will find it in the morning during low tide. Get the word out to the dory guys that its a $50 spot in their pocket if its found and you might end up getting it back.

I remember someone mentioning how critical it was to leash the drive on the water yesterday ;D

You are but we didn't know how to cook it, thought it would be a pain to kill it and didn't have a burlap sack with us.
