Hi guys,

Looks like the derby was a good time.  Sorry I missed it.

Then again, when you only have a few hours in a weekend to get out and the fish are in your own backyard, why not go local.

Saturday I caught one 5 pounder after 2 hours on the water.  Gave me a good 15 min workout, everytime he saw the boat he dove for the bottom.  Took a friend out with me for a couple of hours on Sunday (I have a tandem WS). She hooked up and landed 2 fish (3 and 4 LB) within an hour.
Using the standard 0 flasher with the bare red hook (this is where red hook beer got it's name).  above all this is a 10 oz banana sinker so I can keep it down to 90 ft while keeping a slow troll.

I'm headed out Wednesday evening for another go of it.  I'm fishing East/West in front of Juanita Bay in Kirkland.  Launch at either Juanita Beach or Waverley Park in Kirkland  say around 5pm.  There isn't much boat traffic or fishing pressure in this area.

Come out and give it a try, You'll need a salmon tag and a freshwater license.

Nice job on the sockeye!!!  I didn't know they were available that far north in the lake.  Any pics?

BTW, I split off your recipe and gave it it's own thread in the new "Recipes" forum.   I'm going to have to try it sometime.

I have pictures but I'm not sure how to post them.  They are jpegs at 1050mb and the site can only handle 192mb.  Anyone out there know how I can resize them?

The easiest way to get them smaller than the 192 MB limit is to resize them to 640x480.  If  you're running windows, you  most likely have Microsoft Photo Editor.  Open the picture with this program.  The first thing I do is "save as" another file so as not to overwrite the original.  Then go to the "Image" tab and there is a "Resize" option that pops up a menu.  Click on "Units" and change to pixels.  Then change the Width and Height to 640 and 480 (or 480 and 640 if it's a portrait),  Click to "Smooth" button for better scaling.  Then click OK.  Save the picture again.

There are other programs you can use to do this like Photoshop or GIMP.

When posting, you'll see an "Addition Option" button below the text entry window.  Click on it and you'll see a place to Attach the file.  I use the "Browse" button to find the image on my harddrive.  You can post up to 4 pictures per post with the sum not exceeding 192 MB.  If you have more than 4, then reply again with another post and add attach more pics.

Nice!  Still no word if we'll get another couple days in next week.  I'm hoping so as I missed all the open days so far.

6 MORE DAYS!  Next Tuesday through Sunday.

Anyone up for a weekday early morning run next week?  Tuesday is looking good for me.

Six more days of sockeye fishing on
Lake Washington set for August 8-13

OLYMPIA – An additional six days of sockeye fishing on Lake Washington will begin Tuesday, Aug. 8, and last through Sunday, Aug. 13, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today.

State and tribal salmon co-managers recently updated the size of the Lake Washington sockeye run to about 466,000 salmon. That projected run, which includes expected returns through August, is well above the spawning escapement goal of 350,000 salmon, and provides a surplus of 57,000 sockeye each for tribal and non-tribal fisheries.

“This year’s unexpectedly strong sockeye return has allowed us to provide anglers another fishing opportunity on Lake Washington while still remaining within our non-tribal share of fish,” said Tim Flint, WDFW salmon resource manager.

So far, anglers have caught about 28,700 sockeye during five days of fishing on Lake Washington this summer. Anglers averaged just above one sockeye per rod during the first two days of fishing, and slightly under one sockeye per rod during the last three days of fishing.

“Overall, the catch rate continues to look good,” Flint said.

Fishing will be allowed from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset each day. The daily limit is two sockeye, measuring at least 15 inches. All other salmon must be immediately released unharmed. No fishing will be allowed within 100 yards of the floating bridges. Waters within 1,000 feet of the mouth of the Cedar River in Renton also will be closed to all fishing.

Anglers must carry a freshwater or combination fishing license and salmon catch record card. Any salmon that is not released must be immediately recorded on the catch record card. Under freshwater fishing rules, anglers may only fish with one rod and must stop fishing once they have reached their personal daily limit.

More information on Lake Washington sockeye salmon can be found at http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/sockeye/counts.htm

Tuesday I'll be out at area 9 to check on the coho situation (report to follow).  As far as Lake Washington, I may be out there Wednesday night or Saturday morning (maybe both).
