Went up to the Strait this week, camped at Salt Creek and fished Freshwater Bay from the Hobie Adventure Weds and Thursday.  On Weds, the bite was hot for everyone but me---many fish landed, most 8-18 lbs, I missed the bite  due to a late start.  On Thursday, I fished Bachelor Rock's back eddy, as the outgoing minus tide made it too difficult to hold position in front of the kelp bed.
This fat little hen, about 8 lbs, mistook my 2 oz white Crippled Herring for something tasty, and I netted it after a short fight.  There were 8 boats at Bachelor rock, this was the the only fish caught there.  The trollers working further west did not fare much better, the DFW fish checker said there were only 2 salmon caught by 11 AM, when I came in. He said the bite was at Port Angeles' Ediz Hook, most boats had limits--3 fishers on board, 6 salmon!  Very few coho  in the Strait yet, the king run is about 1/3 in.

I am going back up with my wife next week for another shot at a sleighride1

Thanks for the report..  I passed on going up there today because I was invited to go to Possession Point on a PB.  Limited on crab near Mukilteo, but got skunked on salmon.  Released a couple fairly big lings.  Fish checker said 3 fish from mid channel on one boat and 4 from everyone else fishing possession,
Thinking about going to Freshwater next weekend, if wind cooperates.

THe Canyon HS-15 has 6:1 retrieve ratio, only weighs 14 oz, has 20# of drag, and great freespool.  A dream. lever drag, no levelwind to get crappy.

About $240, very similiar to the Avet, but nicer.
