Ok, since I have never been there, can you float the Umpqua River in a Hobie! And if you can, what area can you. I keep hearing about the small mouth fishing there and it has my intrest up.

Any help?

Thanks
Steve

There's a nice flat stretch of water where I have fished for smallies. You can access it by using the boat ramp at the Umpqua RV Park, located at 16844 Hwy 138. Usually the smallie fishing is best in June, July.

Below the rapids at elkton rv park it's plenty deep, but that stretch get's quite a bit of pressure.  If your good at reading water it's doable for 3 miles upstream from the elkton rapids (the toughest would be right around the bridge for several hundred yards) - and better fishing IMHO.  Junebug colored curly-tail Zoom worm, 1/0 worm hook, and 1/16th oz bullet weight is all you need.  I've caught bass on that river with everything in my tackle box, but the setup above is gold & simple.  Although the biggest bass I've caught have been on a pig & jig.
