Hey all,

I'm new to this site and am new to sturgeon fishing.  took my girlfriend out a few times to go sturgeon fishing and have been skunked.
She has almost lost all hope and I was wondering if you guys have any advice on where we should try.  We have squid, anchovies, sardines and smelt.
thanks in advance.

also we fish a lot around cathedral park and have tried cedar oaks.

cheers,

duckchef

How deep are you fishing? Your bait sounds right. Generally if you're not getting bites after 45 minutes to an hour you should move. Timing it to hit the outgoing tide also helps. Look for deeper holes in the area to fish. There are some great spots higher on the river but it has been a bit on the hit or miss side for us as of late too.

I fish anywhere from 45 ft shallows to as deep as 100 the toyota hole.  I had a lot of sucesses early in the year but nothing the last couple of months.  I really just want ti get my girlfriend into a couple in her kayak so she can get her spirit up for sturgeon fishing.  I read about george roger park.  Any paricular area at george roger?

Thanks again for any help.

One of my favorite holes is just off of the Jefferson street boat ramp. Fish the near shore between 45 and 80 feet of water. I've been very successful there. Fresh herring with a little bit of juice for flavor.

Best luck for me on sturgeon in Columbia snd Williamette is depth between 30 and 90 feet. If you have fish finder computer I had luck on rises or flat spots rising up from deeper areas. Only fished that river twice and did manage one sturgeon. Good luck.

So many Willamette Dino threads I thought I would just use this one to report another outing.  Thanks to Spot for encouraging me to dust off the Hobie and get after some sturgeon yesterday.  I felt rusty but landed a few.  Spot was spot and sleigh rode a few times.  And it was good to see PDX fisher going for his typical sleigh ride too.  Willy dino seem hungry so go ride the sleigh.

That's bad ass guys! I like your new hat spot. Where did you get it? My buddy tells me there's a place near Milwaukie that sells reflective clothing and hats for construction workers and flagger's, but can't find it anywhere. Anyone know of a place?

That looks similar to my Gore-tex rain hat made by Outdoor Research.  It's really nice.  It was a gift but I think it came from a local REI.
