Woo-hoo!  Finally bloodied the yak with a salmon!  15 pounder at 10:00 AM  Saturday at 70 feet just to the north of the creek entrance.  On a 4 oz. Mooch-a-jig.
Talk about lucky to get that fish - the fish grabbed the lure and took off like a SOB - and of course it went to the rear of the yak, then back and forth for about 5 mins until tangled into the rudder.. Had to maintain pressure on the line while flipping up the rudder to untangle..  Got him to the net about another 5 mins after untangling. A cheer went up from the power boaters - none of them could believe a kayaker could catch a fish.  Then, while I was looking around acknowledging the cheers and basking in the glory, the damn thing jumped out of the net, and headed straight to the bottom.  I was in shock, but luckily i had loosened the drag enough that he didnt come unbuttoned.  So after another short fight i got him into the net a second time -this time i bonked him quickly.
Met NWNoob sometime later, but the bite seemed to have fallen off by then, even though it was slack current.
Saw about 6 other smaller salmon caught - not really that hot for the number of boats there.

Congrats on your first salmon.  You have to love it when power boaters cheer you on.

Great looking fish and kickass story. I don't think I've ever heard a "the-one-that-got-away" tale with a happy ending before!
To capture the fish is not all of the fishing. Yet there are circumstances which make this philosophy hard to accept.

WELL DONE, Sir!  I think my story would have been about the the that got away but your success at reeling the fish in the second time is quite commendable!
"A venturesome minority will always be eager to get off on their own,
and no obstacle should be placed in their path;
let them take risk, for God sake, let them get lost, sun burnt, stranded, drowned,
eaten by bears, buried alive under avalanches -
that is the right and privilege of any free American."

Nice pic DoubleR.. I ended up doing a little more jigging after I was done snorkeling and caught my first salmong as well.  Unfortunately for me I landed a Jack that measured 20.5... Its all good, I still had 3 dungies in my catch bag behind me!!!  I will have my first keeper Salmon from the yak this week.. I have a feeling!!  Nice to meet you DoubleR, hopefully I'll see you on the water again..

AWESOME!!! That had to be a rush when that thing jumped out of the net - I probably would have ended up in the drink. What type of lure were you using down there? I was just out at Pt. Defiance on Saturday morning and nada. I didn't see anyone pick anything up and it was jammed. I was out at 5:00 straight up until about 8:00. I'll try and get over to Chambers later this week for the evening bite. Nice job.

KK - I used a Metzler Mooch-a-jig. Looks like a hunk of lead shaped like a cut plug and rigged like a buzz bomb. Works like a cross between a jig and a mooching setup - good for motor mooching or jigging while drifting. Changed out the treble with a 3/0  Matzuo siwash hook.  I like the deep crook in the Matzuo hooks when fishing barbless.  Used 4 or 6 oz depending on current.

P.S. I also used 3' of 25# fluorocarbon leader and Sampo swivel.  I never had a tangle with the Sampo swivel - expensive but worth it..

Nice fish!

Don't forget to check netting schedules before you head out there.  I think they are netting Monday through Thursday right now.
