Going to Lincoln City for the Labor Day weekend.  Will be fishing out of Depoe on Sunday the 2nd if anybody wants to hook up and head out :)

Back is feeling good and I am tired of not fishing.

Hi Eric,

I'd like to try out my new kayak.  I'm not familiar with the launch facilities at Depot Bay.  When and where would you like to meet?

Launch ramp and parking right at the harbor. $2 fee. easy paddle out. Should carry a VHF and announce "kayak outbound/inbound Depoe Bay" on Ch 80 and monitor it to avoid being run over by the power boaters and charters. Yakers chat on Ch 69 usually. Required to also monitor 16.

Well, my trailer failed 5 exits after getting on the freeway this morning, soooo.   No boat, no tackle, and a 7 hr ride from Oly to LC.  Good luck out there to all who fish Sun.  Eventually my luck gas to change.

Boat, trailer, gear all ok.  Avoided a flip over and got everything back home safely.

Lesson learned after researching what happened....not enough tongue weight.  Re-engineering my trailer load-out and will be good for the upcoming tournament.

Thanks for the concern!

I've had a concern about my own trailer, it used to have almost zero tongue weight so I added a spare tire on the tongue. glad you're ok. Please describe what happened.

So I got this awesome deal on my trailer and had no problems towing it home empty....
Loaded the PA centered on the trailer rails with nothing else in the trailer, bow forward....
Towing the trailer at low speeds, below about 30mph, everything is fine, but over that it starts to fish-tale badly.  The failure occurred on the way to DB was an almost serious event....Jumped on the freeway that is bumper to bumper heading south on 5....after about 5 exits, the traffic spreads out and we start to pick up speed.  Until this point I had not towed the trailer with just the yak on it over 30mph....  I get going with the flow, in the center lane of 5.....I feel something not right and look at my rear-view as I am almost to about 55mph now....All the traffic behind me was backed off by like 100 feet and my trailer was fish tailing so badly I thought it might come undone and or flip over.  The rods in the rod-holders actually popped the bungees holding them in and I almost had my Tigers flung into traffic.....instantly off the accelerator and off to the right shoulder.....  limped back home, dumped the trailer in the garage.

After researching, I found my trailer has two axle positions.  I need to move the axle back and add my "yakking box" to the front of the trailer to get enough tongue weight to have it track straight.  The current position of the axle is for heavier loads.....

Those light weight trailers, with little to no tongue weight is a serious factor to contend with.  If you still don't have enough tongue weight after adding your yakking box, you could remove the tongue, tape off the open tube under the ball coupler with Gorilla Tape, and pour some concrete down inside of it.  How much to add is totally up to what your needs are.
