You can fish for them above the falls but where seem to be a tightly guarded secret. The lower Willamette will not reopen.

The Columbia will reopen Oct 20 but good luck getting them to bite then. Ask Craig about that one ;)

Anyone interested in showing the newb the oregon way... I am looking for AOTY points and a sturgeon to put in the freezer.  If it makes a difference... I am old school... if shown a hole, I take it to my grave unless I have been given permission to share... even then, not sure I would.  I also follow the rules regarding the host saying that C&R is a necessity for knowledge shared.

AOTY points only count if you could have kept & eaten the fish, as I understand it.

Yup.

If I had the knowledge to get a keeper sturgeon I would already have points for one. Plus in Oct I will be busy chasing salmon :)

Find me at the salmon seminary on Thursday. I can probably show you how to fish for them, that catching part is what I usually have an issue with  ;D

ihop - you are correct... that is why I wanted to know about if it was open and indicated I wanted one to put in the freezer.  Looks like the 20th of October it open for retention.  I was saying I am willing to C&R if my guide indicates it is a requirement for sharing info.  I have a friend who fishes bass who has made this a requirement if he is to share knowledge with me regarding where to fish.

I have a plan for when it reopens.  However,  I will need to get my fill of salmon fishing first.  I would really like to try a sturgeon.  I have never eaten any.  So, my only rules  would be no giving up the spot and I eat a chunk of yours if you get one and I don't.  ;D

Where in the world are the wauna powerlines?  I have only fished for sturgeon across the river from Astoria (not in a kayak).

If you google it, a map will show it.  I can't  link a map right now cause the kindle  fire sucks at the old copy and paste thing.

Cool - I found it... well, if I get the money to put together the anchor system, I would be up for fishing sturgeon... guessing I need to be prepared to be chilled. :)

They connect Wauna, OR to Cathlamet, WA.  They are pretty hard to see, but below is a shot of one of the river crossing towers.  Zoom out to see where you are.  Fun Fact: they are owned by BPA and rated at 115 kV.   ;D
