Hello all,

New to NWKA - so far, so good - great site!

Hate for my first posting to be a bit of a downer, but read this short article today while looking for silver salmon reports for Kenai River:

http://www.adn.com/2012/09/13/2622952/commerce-secretary-declares-alaska.html

The comments section was more informative - and far more entertaining! - than the article, but definitely gives me pause, especially considering the so-far lousy Kenai silver run (reinforcing thoughts about several less-than-stellar halibut charters out of Deep Creek this past summer).

Anyway, point of the post is to ask for your opinions, comments, and concerns with regards to sportfishing on the Peninsula and statewide for both fresh and saltwater. I'm sure some of you also fish commercially and would appreciate your input as well.

Fire away - thanks...

First off ... who are you? It is polite to introduce yourself to the group.

This is a Kayak fishing forum, and while we do talk about all things fish and kayak related most conversation is linked to both kayaking and fishing.

You seem to have an agenda and are trying to steer this conversation in a particular direction. Why don't you give us your opinion. Or better yet share a recent fishing story and maybe some pictures of fish. That is the kind of stuff that will get the group to talk.

Not trying to be an ass but just calling it like I see it. When I am at a Friends house and some random guy walks into the middle of the room and want to talk religion it is going to raise a few eyebrows.... just sayin.

Oops! You are absolutely right - sorry. In hindsight, my posting reminds me a lot of guys who ask questions on firearms sights about full auto weapons - everyone immediately assumes it's a BATFE agent fishing for his or her next victim (and no offense if you actually are a BATFE agent). Over the weekend, I'll put some thought into an intro, as well as update my profile. Thanks for the feedback.

Will look forward to it. It'd be nice to make the acquaintance of another kayak fisher on Alaskan waters. I'd write more, but need to gather gear to hit the Upper Kenai tomorrow before the next big blow rolls through on Saturday.
