WHAT THE... The case of the incendiary battery charger

I just plugged in my sonar battery to charge, turned around to grab something and turned back around to a huge cloud of smoke. 

The wires basically melted away to nothing in seconds.  No sound, no nothing just melted.

Yes I hooked black to black and red to red.

It's a cabelas 7 amp kit with charger.

Any thoughts? 

Figured it out.  I can hear my mother in my head telling me to pull cords out of the socket carefully. 

After all these years it finally caught up to me.
