Well, I was the lucky one yesterday, and I finally got to gloat at the power boaters as I left the line early with my tag full.

This was my first day fishing in a hogline.  I was not expecting nearly as many boats to be out early on a Friday, but hey, I'm new.

I meant to get to the spot (somewhere up river of I/5, and downstream of Bonneville)  <- not my spot  ;)  at sunrise, but I was a little late.

The spot I scouted earlier in the week was full, and there were several lines formed for about a mile downstream. After doing the math, and realizing that it would be kind of hard for a fish to swim past the lines without seeing at least one lure they liked, I decided to try the furthest downstream line.

Here is a shot of the early morning buffet line.

Not a lot was happening for several hours.  I did not notice any nets upstream, but right around 9:00 one boat in our line got one.

I am pretty sure I missed one while I was in deep meditation. (deep enough that the boat next to me could hear me snore) because when I opened my eyes my rod was all messed up, and pulled out of the holder.  I locked it, and put the clicker on.

About 20 minutes later I got my first.  Just barely above being considered a Jack, but I am keeping it.

After I landed it, got back on anchor, and fielded the jokes about my trip to Astoria from the PBers, things were quiet again.

I saw 3 more get caught in my line, so things were pretty slow but steady.

Right around 1 as I was melting the waders that in the cold morning had seemed like a good plan, I got my second hit and it stuck.

This one fought a lot better.  It was another small one, at 27."

Check please!

They both hit the same wobbler.  It seemed like that is what everyone was using.  I saw one Kwikfish out too, but it did not do anything.

And of course, I was so excited about my first limit, and 2 salmon day that I had set up the tripod and get a good shot when I got home.

Pause for Product Endorsement.

Somehow they looked bigger in the boat!

One think I want to add to this report is a great big thank you to everyone who has helped me learn to catch these coveted fish.  No other fishing group has been as accepting and willing to help new guys in my experience.

So thank you to all of you.

Sinker, Out.

I would much rather be up a creek without a paddle than down one.

Nice work!

I was in the same neck of the woods on my buddy's boat (still need to replace an anchor for my kayak) and we limited thursday and friday and more (bunch o' jacks to boot on thursday). Wobblers were quiet for us, but kwiks were the ticket.  We were without company too.

If I did leave any, will you return what you don't use today?

I was a little closer to shore than I initially thought good.

Congrats on the double.  Sorry for not letting you in on the use of a clicker while "meditating".  A fisherman's got to have a few secrets.

Awesome! Didn't work for us today, but Multnomah County gave me a nice welcoming gift.  Or should I say I get to give them one.

Ya, nothin here but a little pikeminnow today. Only saw one boat drop out of line.
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.
