Seas have been backing off the last few days, so im gonna try to get out and finally get some points, and some dinner.

Hopefully rack up a Ling, and a rock cod. :headbang:

Is a Greenling considered a rock cod?

I don't think they are RC. At least in Cali they had their own regs. Sounds like a lotta fun. I can't wait to fish the big blue again. Have a funone and don't forget the pics. ;)

Well, didn't make it out. It was just a little rough and didn't feel comfortable goin by myself. I might have to get over that if i can't find people to fish with here.

If i would have had a partner with me, i would have gone out.

I know what you mean CBY. I learned the ropes in Cali where luckily enough there's lots of people to fish with. It's a lot easier w/ you have people to ask questions and can watch the OG's do their thing. When I came to Seattle there was no one to really fish w/ and it's been slowly coming along. No worries CBY, all in due time.

Coosbayyaker,

Sorry I missed your post.  I really like going to Sunset Beach later in the year.  I live in Myrtle Point and have not got a chance to look at Sunset for about a month.  The last time I was their, it was a beautiful day and it was to rough to be out their.

If you live that direction, try to keep an eye on it.  It should start calming down before long their.  I would be more than happy to go fishing with you when the swell permits.  I have most Tuesdays to go fishing and mornings on the weekends.

Sunset is a very good spot to limit out in a hurry.  Sassy shads work very well in a variety of colors and sizes.  If you do go, all the way to the left are good spots to fish.  Short pedal or paddle from the beach.

Hey Coastal, It has been rough almost everyday, i've been checkin. It calmed down yesterday and i was gonna try to get out today, but the weather is kinda crappy and my back is out of whack..

I'll keep checking. I can fish almost any day, so if you decide your gonna go out , let me know.

Do they have those Sassy Shads at Bi-Mart or somewhere else here ?

Coosbayyaker,

I usually pickup my sassy shad at the tackle shop next to McKay's Market in Empire.  I can't think of the name right off the top of my head but it is attached to the McKay's Store on the end.

Englund Marine I believe has them to, if I can recall from the last time I was their.  All white/ white and black/ red and white/ orange and white are all good colors.  I usually get 4-5 inch shads for blacks and lings and smaller ones for Sea Trout (red and white).

Hopefully the weather starts changing, I'm getting cabin fever.  We have to definitely hookup and catch some monsters.

I believe that Sassy Shad are just the Mr. Twister brand of swimbaits.  For rockfish, I'm pretty sure just about any large swimbait will do, but some people do have their preferences.  Personally I like FishTraps and anything Bill from NCKA pours.  My favorite colors depend on water conditions.. dark colors (green, blue, purple, brown, black) for clear shallow water, brighter colors (chartreuse, orange, red, white) for limited vis water or when fishing really deep.

Until you find a brand you like, I'd try whatever you can get your hands on first.  I'm sure Bi-Mart has something to offer.

What Bsteves said. And don't forget about irons as well. They do wonders on rockfish.

Whatever your rockfish secret is, I know it has more to do than just the iron by itself. You've got some serious rockie mojo. ;)

been out of it for a while, hurt my back last week,  now im sick....total bummer.

That tackle shop is called "bites on". I just recently discovered that Englund had alot of plastics at reasonable prices. I'm pretty stocked up. Now if i can feel good and have some nice conditions and im gonna rack up a big ole Ling...

See ya on the water..
