I'm heading to Lincoln City this weekend and was thinking of throwing in my traps.  Anybody know how the crabbing is going there?

I dropped one trap and let it soak for a few hours last Saturday while I fished. I didn't get any, and of the 15 or 20 pots around me I didn't see much action at all.

If it were me and I was just going to crab and not fish, I would consider Yaquina or Alsea Bay.

If you drop the pots about 1/2 mile offshore about 1 mile south of the mouth of the Siletz you'll be right where the charters were killing them a few weeks ago. Averaging 12 keepers per trap after 3-4 hours. You can probably get free tuna heads at Tradewind's Depoe Bay fish fileting station.

Go out in the ocean, Last Friday I limited with one pick on one pot. Thursday I did not do so well. No crab and my pot was 200 yards off station. Only one powerboat out that day off the Salmon River. Wonder who had crab for dinner Thursday. Not me.

I am heading over to try fishing and carbbing today. The tides look better this weekend for cabbbing in Siletz.

I'd love to, but I'm new to the salt and still need a few bits of equipment (and practice) before I'm ready to head out there.

Go with at least one experienced buddy, particularly first time on the salt.

If you're new to the salt, hold off on getting into the ocean until you know what you're doing. I've had great luck launching straight off the beach at Taft state park, but wait until your close to slack. Currents do get rippin though so be aware. Also head up river a few hundred yards and you'll find some 15-18' deep holes along the way that are crabby. Good luck, be safe and try and arrive at Taft early so you can park in front.

Also, beware of seals and sea lions if using fish carcasses for crab bait. There's a lot of them.

Ended up dropping traps in Siletz Saturday: it was pretty slow and only ended up with 5 keepers.

Thanks again willbd...very cool.

I'll be out in the Lincoln City area this weekend if anyone's thinking about heading out and needs a partner. I have my safety gear ready to go as well as three Danielson traps, Turkey legs, Chinook heads and a bunch of rope and floats. Let me know if anyone's interested. I'll be with my wife and can get out in the morning on Saturday or Sunday (both?) for a few hours.
