Out of curiosity, what size herring did you use sunday?

Damn fine write up Rory thanks.  Mike who donated your prize saw you fishing Sunday and took this pic.  Not the best detail but it shows your Chinook in the net.  Thanks for the Tuna, going to smoke some up this week.  I know who I am going to follow next year.

Rory, way to go man!
I was originally planning on fishing Sunday, but so tired from Saturday I slept in - its tough being an out of shape old fart.
Question though:  I was bouncing the bottom with 6 ounces - seems like 10 ounces would have been overkill - unless you were trolling really fast?  I was generally keeping about a 1.5 mph differential - too slow?

That's what I thought too.  But I think the idea is you want to keep a 45 degree angle on your line, with the dropper sinker just off the bottom.  Seems that it does in fact require 10-12 oz to do that.  And, always troll with the current.  In order to do that on a kayak, you have to time the tides exactly right.  This is what I didn't do on Saturday but did do on Sunday.  I don't know if maintaining ground speed or differential speed matters as much, but trolling with the tide on sunday I was making about around 3mph overall.

Gray's Harbor may be calling my name again before this season's over :D

Awesome write-up and pictures Rory.  Also, thanks for the tuna. I can't wait to sink my teeth into some. Now I need to buy a new grill. :)

Rory,
Was that the Fury out of westport you;'re showing us? Didn't think  Moa Moa came that far north. Usually associate them with warmer waters.

It was the tequila too. Good captain and deckhands, but the first mate is insane.

Moa moa? You referring to the sunfish?
