I think achieving the 400 post mark on nwka is the threshold. And earning at least one ass hat in the process.

It generally happens around the same time a "new guy" stops asking totally new guy questions...  ::)

Wow, buddy, it's almost as if you want it. I've seen your other inquiries. OK, tell ya what, go into the Kayak Shed sub forum, and troll hard on the vessel of your disliking. Make sure to do some name calling and direct it toward fans of said vessel. Make sure to take a purist's stance, and post evidence of yourself performing righteous Tenkara casts from a hand sculpted dug out canoe coated in walrus scrotum skin. You are the real deal. Let them know that. Stick to your guns. Get angrier with every post. Cheap bourbon will help. Don't think - just stroke the fact that your floating pinniped sack is the ONLY way to kayak angle. Let them know how truly lame they are. Hope this helps - YMMV.

I think it happens when the "new guy" start answering the questions of other new guys.  It's what keeps things fresh and interesting.  The old guys get tired of answering the same old questions.  The new guys graduate beyond new guy status, taking the role of old guys answering questions.

So, what do the old guys ascend to?

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain
