Anyone ever fish when the exchange was really small? Was it better than normal or worse?

btw - I am not looking for instruction on tides, currents, wind, etc... although I always welcome the chance to learn and would do so should you think there is something I must know... however, the aforementioned things were addressed some time ago.  I am looking for personal experiences of larger exchanges verses smaller ones and if there was a noticeable difference in your harvest... or the ease of harvest.

If you're referring to bottomfishing in the strait, in my experience it's not quite as good.  BUT the advantage is you can fish through the entire tide exchange. Whereas with a big tide the current is too fast for a yak and you can't. So in the end it prolly evens out. Small exchange generally makes for a  less exhausting kayak fishing experience, plus fewer hangups. And, there's always blacks, which seem to bite no matter what the tide is doing.

Go for it and report back how ya do!

I've had great luck with small tide exchanges at NB on the strait side, and poor catches with large exchanges. The difference is so extreme that I plan my trip only during low tide exchanges or plan on only fishing the ocean side if the exchange is high. Make sure your in the water during the slack tide, especially if they fall early or late. Many bottom fish are crepuscular feeders, so if you can get out there near sunset or sunrise, do it. Tight lines.
