Whats up NWKA members!

I am the new guy here without a kayak.  Looking for years and finally ready to pull the trigger before my wife convinces me to get rid of my trusty bayliner which mainly is used during the winter time for striper and sturgeon fishing.

I think i'm getting a perception pescator(old tarpon 120 model), but i've been looking around for Ocean Kayaks with the rodpod.  If i like the sport i'll probably get a hobie with mirage drive.

I need some kayak fishing buddys!  I would love to go kayak crabbing, and catch some good eating fish.

My Background
I'm an IT consultant that grew up in Massachusetts along the coast.  I used to go snorkeling for lobsters, i miss it.  I moved to Cali in the mid 90's to Mountain View.  I live in a gated area that has 4 private lakes with huge bass, i have done alright with bank fishing, there are no motor boats allowed.

Thanks for having me!

I think most of us are northwest guys and gals... You might have better luck with the norcal guys for a fishing buddy.  I have an OK Trident 13 with the old style rod pod and love it.  I know nothing about the tarpon 120.  Whatever you decide do a lot of reading... pick your yak based on what you want to do with it.  You many find that you want something you can easily stand it... or sit higher in... hit some demo days for places near you... whether it is a perception, or a hobie, or an OK... you will benefit if you try before you buy.  Unless you just have money to burn... in which case I would be happy to sell you my current set up at full retail plus shipping and 15% because it is proven to catch fish. ;)  Best of luck to you.  The folks here (and www.norcalkayakanglers.com) are exceedingly knowledgable and helpful.  I know they were for me.

Certainly want you to feel welcome on here, but I think rev's right.  You'll get a lot more in the way of local buddies and intel on the NorCal site.  Those guys are just as good and friendly as we are.  A few NorCal guys are on this forum too so you'll be in good company if you choose to stick around here too.

Welcome JimmyD.  It's a great sport and the lakes in Rancho Muriata do have some nice Bass in them.  I had a chance to fish one of them while visiting my cousin in Rancho Murieta this summer.  I used one of his two Hobie Outbacks and was so impressed with the "hands free" fishing that I ended up buying an Outback to replace my OK Prowler.

I have some pics of some small bass I caught there this summer on my Flickr site if you're interested.

Demo as many as you can and Enjoy!

Gary, Thanks for the info.  I'm wondering if you can connect me with your relative.  It would be cool to have a neighbor that kayaks.  Maybe he will let me try out his kayaks too down at the lake.

Thanks!

I will try and send you a PM with my contact info.
