this is probably a perennial fav... tiger muskies... how does one catch one... I think I would fish out at Tapps, if I fished for them at all... what is the likelihood someone is gonna catch a 50 inch tiger - this seems like a way to say - you can't keep them... but if you do catch a 50 inch tiger, where does that go in aoty? :) I was thinking panfish.

Rev,
Have you been drinking? Or did leave the computer unattended and your 14 year old daughter is posting under your screen name. That is the longest text message ever.

Please use punctuation. It makes your post readable and leaves a chance that someone may respond seriously.

Edited for clarity.

Good evening gentlemen.  It is my hope your evening has been entirely enjoyable.  I am hoping to benefit from you knowledge and wisdom on this cold and rainy evening.  I can't help but believe this has been a topic of discussion in past, however, I was unable to expeditiously find a response to my specific questions.

Should I decide to fish for a Tiger Muskie, what tackle and techniques would give me the most likely success.  I would pursue the unusual fish at Lake Tapps, as it is fairly close to my current residence.

I was surprised to read that, while you are able to retain a tiger muskie, it must be 50 inches long.  Would I be correct in interpreting this WDFW regulation as an attempt to limit any likely retention?

Additionally, should one land this fabled "Fish of 10,000 casts), where would it go in the AOTY points system?  I believe it would be best for it to go under "panfish".

End Edit

As for my drinking, I did consume a bottle of Mt Dew.  Given that I have not consumed soda for a few weeks I believe I may have blacked out and over-utilized my favorite form of punctuation - the ellipsis.

I suppose I could blame it on watching "Honey Boo Boo" clips on TLC.

I think I was hoping you were just boosing it up with Lee. Drinking some Natti Light and playing game cube.
Not sure how I feel about this whole Honey Boo Boo craziness.

And dude, it is crazy!  I watched half a dozen clips and am now far less intelligent.  I kept thinking, "No, there can't really be families like this."  Lee has never invited be to play game cube.

Nor shall I invite you for game cubin'.  However, if you venture over to Tapps, let me know, and I'll try to join you. It's only a few minutes away from me.  Tiger muskie are planted for sport catch and to control pike minnow.  They are sterile, and not intended as a food fish.  The 50 inch limit is because they are intended for catch and release.

If you go let me know also as I have thought about doing it in the past and have done a little bit of research.  Here is a Lake Tapps Tiger Muskie Map that I found awhile back.

Lake Curlew up near Republic, WA has a healthy population of these fish, and it is said that if someone were to catch a 50" Tiger up there, that you would have a state record on your hands- I verified this with the Biologists while they were doing their survey there this year.  there have been a couple keeper sized caught up there during Tiger Muskie tournaments, and released! so they are in there.
I camped up there 2 years in a row, and found them to be an interesting bi-catch while fishing for bass.  I ended up changing to a 20# leader on my Texas Rigged Senko, as several hook sets were set into the large, sharp teeth of these fabled beasts leaving me with nothing.  I also caught a 31" while fishing for walleye using a bottom walker and macks lure' Cha-cha on another lake that holds these fish.
They fight like mad, dont stick you fingers in their mouth, or gill plate- use a net, and handle them from behind the head.  If you do catch one at 50" if would say you have yourself a giant fish that will taste delicious! Also if you catch one that is 50" i would hope you have a friend along to help measuring and corralling.  A lot of guys throw Giant Rooster tails to catch them with success.  I have tried this, and just get a sore wrist from so many casts and retrieves.  They say they go deep in the winter as the water cools, so maybe some deep trolling- maybe a giant perch colored bait? (they love to eat the perch) we used to use Blue gill under a big bobber back in the IA to lure these giants to bite- though we can't do that here in WA.
