I am new to Wa.  Big offshore/long range fisherman from So. Cal.  I am so glad to be up here finally for good.  Love everything about the Northwest.  I fish from an Ocean kayak Malibu 2xl with my 9 year old son semi rigged with milk crate and several rod holders.  I have been trying to learn the fishery for about a year now and have made a few excursions out in the sound (Gig Harbor area).  Not much luck.  There are some advantages of fishing with two from a kayak but still trying to figure out everything.  Concentrating on winter blackmouth right now and would like some advice?  The only thing I miss from Cal. is that I had the fishery dialed from many years of practice.  We are interested in crabbing and all other fishing seasons from the yak.

Welcome!  I think you will like the PNW.  Fishing can be challenging in the winter, but if you spend enough time you can get some areas dialed in.  Blackmouth are particularly difficult.  I've never caught one in many, many tries!  Doesn't keep me from trying tho.  Probably only a handful of guys on this site have gotten one from a kayak.

Vashon area is probably one of the better areas to fish though, so you are in a good position there.
