There are 2 gopro hero originals on Craigslist $150 for the pair. No mounts with the water proof housing. Is this a good deal?

Meh, it seems OK. New, they are 130 a pop, and that gets you a warranty and a buckle or two. Provided they are in good shape and that the waterproof cases are uncompromised, it may be worth a call with which to offer a bit of haggling. All said and done, you'll add SD cards and a mounting kit. Depending on what route you go, that's an extra 50 bucks, give or take.

I've taken some decent video and pics with that model, and find it to be a sound product. People do place them in sketchy situations, so there does exist a fair amount of buyer beware.

Do you need two? Maybe get a new one and some basic accessories? And rest assured with a warranty and the fact that you can truly trust the case. I dunno.  Still cheaper that popping on the new Hero3.

so she just emailed me and they found the mounts. 3 curved surface mounts, 3 flat surface mounts and a flange mount plus media cables for each. it is so tempting right now.

Well, you'll still need two high speed, high capacity SD cards, so don't forget that.  Mounts are cheap; don't put too much stock into the value therein.  But heck, if the cases are solid, go for it.

They are super fun cameras; you'll enjoy them.

for what its worth, the video quality of the hero2 is far superior to the original... and the hero3 is probably another big step up (haven't used one, so no first hand knowledge).

Hero 2 & 3 are both 1080p capable, so probably a frame rate increase with the 3.  Maybe better stability and more accurate colors too.

I think it depends on what they mean by GoPro Hero originals. I have three GoPros, a Hero 960 (which I would not recommend). I tested it in a kayak bass fishing video I posted on You Tube and and it sucked. I also have Hero Naked (which is somewhat better, I'm assuming that is equivalent to a Hero 1) and a Hero2 which is the best in my current stable. I'm just finishing converting my Outback to carry several video cams and will let you know how those tests go. I 'm not crazy about the fish eye lens distortions and problems in low light levels, in any early Heroes. Of course, I'm now starting to lust after the new Hero 3. Their latest (H3) video on GoPro.com looks a little nicer but so do the other sample videos they made with the earlier cams.

We recently produced and showed a video on fly fishing on the Prince of Wales Island, while giving a talk on our annual Alaska trip that we're pimping, at the Long Beach Casting Club, last Thursday. Luckily, we recruited a bunch of new people. Interestingly, the best video in that presentation was shot on an iPhone (which is not waterproof-- Yikes!) and on an old Kodak Playsport (which is -- sort of?). If you've watched a lot of You Tube, you know the single thing missing in most of their videos is editing. Being able to edit is more important than buying the next  digital camera (I keep telling myself that). If you have a recent Mac, you can download a great little powerful editor for $14.99 (iMovie 11).

Of course, I'll be screwing around learning more about my growing GoPro system,  wondering how long I can resist the H3's siren song.

That's a killer deal on the Hero2 with the LCD backpac. You will really need the LCD backpac  so you can frame your shots and see your playbacks. Great price for the combo.
