Just got this in an email from ODFW.  Looks like we will have access to cabbies all summer!  But NO cabs for the ORC :o

2013 Bottomfish Season

The 2013 bottomfish season will be very similar to the 2012 season.

There is one change: the opening date for cabezon has been changed to July 1. Retention of cabezon (1 fish sub-bag limit) will be prohibited January 1 through June 30 and October 1 through December 31. Under the current federal cabezon quota, there is only enough cabezon to be open for 2.5-3 months during the busy summer season. When ODFW asked for public input last fall on when to “spend” the cabezon allocation, many of the people who provided input stated they would rather have cabezon open later in the summer, July-Sept rather than April-June. Therefore, ODFW presented this change to the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission, and they approved it at their meeting on December 6, 2012.

We're trying to scope out some scheduling and the ORC is definitely a part of our plans.  If this will change the likely date of the ORC it would be good to make that decision sooner rather than later.

Nothing wrong with CnR on some Fat Cabs.

Maybe we could do a separate prize for the longest Cab photo proof required at the 2013 ORC.

I'm not terribly fussed either way.  I do like eating cabs, kids do too.  I don't really care that much WRT ORC.  But if the consensus is to change the date to bring cabs back into the competition the more warning I have on that score the better.

Not to get all crazy, but we could also just change the format of ORC. So it's similar to AOTY and you just have to take a photo of your catch. You could assign points, like AOTY, for say rockfish, cabs, lings, and greenling. It would be sort of cool to not have to kill the larger fish. I think NCKA runs a couple of tournaments like this.

Yes they do a point system like aoty for some of there contests.  At the Geme Shelter contest last year you didn't have cnr your catch but you got extra points for the cnr.  A lot of guy's had a hard time letting there large catch's go.

Mine usually turn out with a grainy texture to them...
