Considering a trip from Farmer Creek to Cloverdale in a T13 with drift anchor. If the weather holds, I estimate the river will be at 6 to 5 feet Christmas day. Sunday may be a better a day if its green enough. I have some, but minimal, experience on this this part of the river.
Question: Is using the T13 just stupid? Or should I hold for different conditions or a better suited kayak?

This stretch is pretty easy.  Just make sure to take the tight corners on the inside and be prepared to spin when you cross the current seam.  There are a couple of exciting spots along the way but nothing that should be dangerous as long as you're paying attention.

5 to 6 is a decent level.

Let us know how you do.

Thanks Spot.

This may just be a float trip pending my comfort level when I get going. Gotta start somewhere though. It's to close to home to not learn it from a kayak.

Any specific conditions that say don't go? I had hoped the level would be down to 8' and discharge below 4000 this morning. Didn't happen. It's cleaning up though.

Have you used your drift anchor in similar flow levels before?

No.
Thats why this run may be a float trip instead of a fishing trip. However, there are a few points along the way, pending conditions, I am targeting to anchor in. Shallower, easier water. Hopefully those places will be holding hungry fish.

I wouldn't chance it above 7' on your 1st trip.  While the higher flows actually make it easier in some stretches, the consequences go up also.

Some advice:
- Keep your anchor line stowed cleanly with no obstruction to it passing thru your drift anchor eyes without hanging up.
- Keep a sharp knife handy (on you but easily drawn)
- Don't be too proud to rope you yak thru the tight corners if you're not comfortable
- Lay your rods and net down or stow them when in transit. (They will get hung up on branches)
- Take lots of pics!

Would never had thought of this. Pride can be evil.

- Take lots of pics!

You bet. If I can pry my hands from the paddle!

Thanks again. Great tips!
It's like you've done this before.

Rope? Does that mean get out and let it float through while you hold on to a rope on shore?

Yes sir.  Most corners are just fine but every once in a whle you'll come across an acute angle or corner with a snag or strainer right in your path.  When you've got backup, it's kind of fun to shoot these sections but when you're alone, it's not woth the risk.

BTW: Don't let all the safety tips put you off.  This is one of the easier stretches of coastal river in Oregon.  I've foated it solo a couple of times and never had any trouble.  Kinda wish I could join you.
