I may join you guys tomorrow on Hagg... I'll also be taking a new orange (kind of tie-die orange) OK Big Game out on a maiden voyage.

Any opinions on my chance of catching something with a 5 wt fly rod, sinking line, trolling a wooly bugger?

Jay(Steelheadr) - Don't mean to hijack your original thread for going out the weekend of March 29th.  Want to move it up a week, and make it a party?

- Scott

No problem, I work on Saturdays and I'll be heading up to do some backcountry ski touring around Paulina Lake for a few days starting on Sunday. I'm still planning on Hagg Lake on the 30/31 weekend.

Fly gear...Hopefully a good chance, as I was thinking of doing the same thing.  Either that or run to GI JOES after work and pick up a ford fender, some squirmy bait and dust off my old bait rod, all of which I'd rather not do.

Also heard that Smallies in the coves might be an option.

Thinking of launching around 8am @ Boat Ramp C.  My Big Game is a  Tie Dyed Orange/Yellow jobber also.  I'm driving a newish black Chevy Truck.   Hope to see some of you tomorrow.  Just don't expect much GOOD fishin advice, as I'm more a fisher than a catcher.

See Spot's comment earlier regarding Trolling advice at Hagg Lake.  I had to look it up also, it's that flashy spinning troll gear for trolling, made by Luhr-Jensen to attract fish when your trolling.   Thought I'd throw in the "lingo" also to sound edumacated in fishin gear...guess it didn't work.

Hey All,
It sounds like Hagg Lake has seen a good number of yak fishers the past few days. I just returned from a great snow camping trip around Paulina Lake. I can't wait for it to ice out and chase some big browns.

I'll be at Hagg Lake Monday 3/31 to get the Big Game wet and learn to fish from it. Anyone up for teaching me a few things. I'll be bringing fly, spin, and casting rods. At the end of the day, I'll give deep water re-entry a try as well.  No guarantees except a few laughs... ;D

I might check out Hagg on Sunday, although the weather Monday does sound better.

Although Monday will be primarily a learning day...any suggestions on where on Hagg Lake I might actually find a fish or two?

My experience is limited to one trip (and one herring-sized fish), but trolling along the dam and in the S. corner near it seemed like the most productive thing last week.

Ya, the dam end of the lake is good. S corner where the bankies fish is good and I've also done well on the N shore between the boat launch and the dam. And then some days the dam itself is good. The major creek arms are good also. If the visibility is still poor(which I would expect) troll a Ford Fender with 1/4-1/2oz banana weight and a worm/fly/lure. I use between 2-3ft leader. That should be your trolling rig, then also take at least one spinning rod so you can work powerbait off the bottom in some of the prime fish holding water(like the creek arms). I haven't had much luck spinner fishing, but a rod rigged for that might be worth taking as well. Good luck!

Oh ya, if you like sunfish work a worm along the bottom off of the dam. I say on the bottom because that's where the bigger ones will be. You'll find a rock or something and pull 2-3 good size ones out, then it will go dead(all fished out). Then work your way along the dam until you find another good spot. I brought a whole stinger home one time doing that(off of the dam itself). I personally won't do that again since it was too much cleaning for the amount of meat, but it was tons of fun and bluegill fight great. Don't use a bobber/worm because up high in the water column you will just catch little ones. From a boat you can just use a crappie rig which is two suspended hooks with a weight at the bottom. Drop it down and reel up a few cranks to avoid snags and wait. Tons of fun when the trout bit is off.....then again sometimes the bluegill bit is off also.

Any takers for tomorrow???? I won't be out there too early, probably arriving around 10am. I'll be in the "stealthy", dark green Big Game with a brandy new orange PFD.
