Hey All,
My new-to-me kayak will need a float and paddle test soon. I plan to go out to Hagg Lake on either Sunday, March 30 or Monday, March 31 (or both). I'll be paddling, practicing re-entry, and hopefully fishing a bit. I'm pretty new to the gear fishing world. If you'd like to join me and possibly have a laugh or two while I flail, just let me know.

I might be up for it.  I've only fished Hagg once, without much luck.  Anyone know when smallmouth angling picks up there?

Anyone up for fishing this weekend?

I should be back in town on Saturday the 29th and might be able to sneak out of the house on the 30th.

Recent reports from Hagg have been that it's still pretty muddy.  Things should pick up once it clears a bit.  Once the water temps get into the mid-50's the smallmouth should start their pre-spawn and get aggressive.  I'm not sure when Hagg will get that warm, but I'm hoping late March.

It's still too cold for the Bass in Haag.  There was a big snow pack in the hills around the lake so expect at least a couple of months before they start feeding in earnest.  Personally, I've always considered the bass in the lake a neusance. Now that they're worth points however, I suppose I'll be targeting them this summer.
Trout fishing should be OK if the water clears.  We usually do well shallow near the dam or along the shoreline between the dam and boat ramp C this time of year.  The trout like to hang out just off the points in this area.  I've done really well in these conditions with a worm trailed 12-14" behind a Ford Fender.

Good Luck!

I snagged a Shimano sturgeon real on sale at GI Joes this week (they are having a nice sale, 20% off coupon and good number of fish-related items on sale), and I wouldn't mind testing it out.  Or trying for early springers.

Any interest in a Multnomah Channel float this Sunday?

I missed the 20% coupon, but I did manage to pick up a couple kwikfish for around here and an orange mag wiggler for Drano next month.  The lures were about 20-25% off themselves without a coupon and there are way to many sizes and colors (with cool names like "Grinch" and "Fickle Pickle") to pick from.  I must of stared at them for 20 mins.

Anyway, I'm gone starting Saturday for an extended Easter vacation (it's my wife's spring break from teaching @ PSU).  But your right, it's time to start thinking about springers.

I might be up for it but can't give a solid answer just yet.

At the end of the contest do we get to count farmed salmon purchased at Freddies as super delegates?

Sorry, don't quite get what you mean Spot. To clarify, I just meant that the great part about the AOTY is that it makes you target fish you'd never really go for. I doubt I'd go for bass and perch but since they're on the list I will be going after them this year. BTW are you signed up?

Regarding the "mis-quote", I think Spot is referring to the two sentences you managed to drop mid-paragraph when you quoted his post. In this case however, I don't think the missing sentences caused you to take him out of context (unlike some political campaigns).

Z, I was refering to how you dropped out the part where I consider them a nuisance fish and grabbed text on either side, making me look like some kind of Bass lover or something.  But looking back, I realize you were just trying to avoid drawing attention to my slaughter of the word neusance/nuisance.  Doh!  I gotta learn to keep my mouth shut!

I'll be heading up to Hagg lake in the AM this Saturday(March 22) to do a shakedown cruise on the Hobie. I finally got my FF and handles mounted. I'd like to get the Hobie wet and test out the FF. I'm also going to show a fellow yak fisherman what I know about Hagg lake. He moved back up here from Cali and fished the salt a bunch down there. And his son is supposed to join us in a third kayak. I'll probably head home around lunch, but if any of you are up there in the morning be sure to say hi(or join the fleet). I'll be in a white Hobie Mirage and just like Spot said I'll probably be working the lake from boatramp C to the dam and maybe a touch on the SE shore. Tightlines

It's looking like this Saturday March 22nd, might actually be a nice day.  I've been itching to take my yak out for a little spin, and thinking maybe Hagg lake might be worth checking out for an early season paddle. I see there has been a few bass caught (per iFish), and a few trout so I'm bringing poles, but not expecting much.  It nothing else, I could use the fresh air.

rkj1974 - What time are you thinking of launching?  I'll keep a look out for a white hobbie, I'm in an Orange OK Big Game.

Jay(Steelheadr) - Don't mean to hijack your original thread for going out the weekend of March 29th.  Want to move it up a week, and make it a party?
