Was anyone going to fish at Newport? I'll be there sans kayak but probably fish off the jetty. Will be sure to wave to any kayakers . Where do you put in at Newport?

Well, I can't remember the exact days (they all run together at my age!), but, within the last week I observed two yakers fishing one day, and one out alone another day.  Both days, appears that they put in out of D.B. harbor.  Both days, they went north to nearly or abreast of Boiler Bay or Government Point.  The water was really calm.  Great day, except it was bright sun. I work at the Worldmark resort so I can kinda watch the happenings on the water.

Who were you guys....... and..... HOW did we do?  I assume you were fishing, not crabbing.   :)

I was thinking of launching Newport but decided to sleep in  . Theres a nice looking beach launch at the end of the Marine Science drive behind the NOAA docks. Also a boat ramp at the harbor here at south side of the bridge.

Ling Banger, goood to meet you, and thanks for the heads up on other put ins.

Ended up on Saturday doing a few surf launches from Gleneden=had to time it, but got out and back in 2 times with out eating any sand.
did not even hook up fishing gear, focus was the launches, and a few self rescues outside the surf zone.

For today, took my daughter to surf Otters rock, she surfed, I paddled, go out again-more work than Gleneden, but mainly was  there to watch over my girl.

had to cut the weekend short, got called back for work

hope to hook up next trip

see ya

Zero crab, and most of the stink pots were reporting the same. Talked with my commie buddy and he said they're knocking them on the outside at 16-17 fathoms. They're close in, just not in the bays.

LB

That is 96 to 102 FOW ... not exactly in close.

Be very careful with this very long period swell.  A powerful storm in the North Pacific generated it.  These very long period swells have a lot of power behind them and will generate LARGE breaks.  To this point, the Mavericks Big Wave competition has the green light to go on Sunday.  It's the same swells along the entire Pacific Coast.
