This picture was outside our door up at Skamania Lodge this weekend.  I've always wondered about the origins of kayak angling. These gents look to be of Native American decent. Does anyone know where it originated?  I wouldn't be surprised if it started several thousand years ago in some far off land. The U.S. probably gets credit for the milk crate though.;-)

I know there are ivory carvings of Eskimos in kayaks that go back way back.  Granted I am not certain if they get credit for angling / fishing from them as much as hunting.   It looks like they get credit as the origin of kayaking according to Google.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Their fish would not have counted for aoty points...

That is a really neat looking vessel though!. I would love to see how it was put together.
I would much rather be up a creek without a paddle than down one.

Kayaks were originally designed by the indigenous peoples of the northern regions for hunting and fishing.  The word kayak actually comes from an Inuit language and roughly translates to "hunters boat".  They are believed to be at least 4,000 years old, but I wouldn't be surprised to find that they are actually much older.
